Comic Fashion - Belt Buckles

Comic has been with us for a long time. From the Greek word komikos which means comedy, it is described as images or illustrations paired with words to narrate a story. Historically, it was only a set of illustrations but it took some time before it is established as a sequential narrative about a certain plot. From its younger forms, it then expanded into having words in them, making it more easy for people to understand what the story is all about. Speech balloons had been used for this. It has evolved from more than just being comedic strips into other genres such as action-adventure and historical drama, sports and games, romance and drama, mystery and horror and of course, science fiction and fantasy.

It came a long way from how it had been and is now respected and sometimes even seen as a significant part of literature. There is an increasing number of universities around the globe that have started studying graphic fiction for its literary content. Now, it is recognized as something more substantial from the initial impression of a short-lived and short-ranged entertainment. Comic being something that only children can appreciate is no longer applicable. Nowadays, it is loved by children and adults alike.

These collectors are unbelievably loyal. They spend a lot for their collection and they treat their investments with utmost care. Fanatics feel that they still do not have enough that they resort to buying other merchandise related to the comic like action figures and other collectibles.

One notable collectible is the belt buckle with a logo from a comic character design. Usually it is the simplicity of the logo that endears them to the public. Fans can easily copy them in the things they own identifying themselves in them. The irony is that most of the time the characters from a comic also wear belts. In that sense, a fanatic is doing it twice, donning a belt just as the hero from his comic and also flaunting the logo of the character.

These characters took another turn with the rise of special effects in films that allow to translate these comics into film. Again, these characters have the chance to reach out to new and even younger audiences.

Some of the comic characters included in the collection of belt buckles in hotbuckles.com are Superman, Spiderman, The Punisher and Batman. These are all licensed from the original makers of the comic. It has been noted that aside from shirts to be worn, most collectibles are not for everyday use. Action figures are stashed in cupboards. Others are meant to be displayed in one’s shelves. Posters adorn walls. The loyal fans needed something more to speak their love about these characters. A belt buckle easily fits into an everyday ensemble. Almost everyone sees the need to wear a belt that it is a basic accessory in anyone’s wardrobe. These characters, even if they are mostly heroic in the stories, still have their weaknesses and particular traits that endeared them to ordinary people. Supporters easily identified themselves with these characters that there is always that need to express their relationship to them.

Comic is indeed a long way from how it had been recognized. Collectors would surely enjoy the variety of these belt buckles.

Will the upcoming Hellboy game be based on the comics?

I am hoping that it will, if not, it'll suck. From what I've seen it'll be about his adventures before he started working with paranormal research, am I right?

From what I've read the games being build with the help of both the director of the movies and the comic books creators, so it'll have influences from both.

When the game takes place I couldnt say, I've not read the comic books.

Watch the Movie Trailer of the Upcoming X-Men Sequel Online

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is the upcoming sequel to the all famous X-men Series which is a superhero film based upon the fictional Marvel Comics character Wolverine. The film is titled X-Men Origins: Wolverine and is bound to be released by May 1, 2009. The film is directed by Gavin Hood and stars Hugh Jackman as the famous X-Men character, Wolverine. It is a prequel to the X-Men film trilogy, focusing on the mutant Wolverine and his time with Team X, before Wolverine's skeleton was bonded with the indestructible metal adamantium. The film was mostly shot in Australia and New Zealand.

As the film is all about Wolverine’s violent past and the story will be set about twenty years before X-Men, and his early encounters with William Stryker (Danny Huston). The Weapon X program and his interactions with other mutants will be explored, including his relationship with his half-brother Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber).

Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine: The mutant and future X-Men member. Jackman, who played Wolverine in the previous films, has also become producer of the film via his company Seed Productions, and earned $20 million for the film. Jackman underwent a high intensity weight training regimen to bulk up for his role. He changed the program to shock the body into change and also performed cardiovascular workouts. He woke up each morning at 4 am to eat one of the small number of protein-based meals he was allowed each day. He wanted to portray Wolverine exactly as he did in the character's cage match entrance in X-Men, stating his inspiration was Robert De Niro in Cape Fear.  He noted Wolverine had mellowed during the previous film and looked forward to revisiting a darker time in the character's life. Jackman worked out in a Queenstown gym where he would arrive daily at 6 am. He stayed in character and made noises while exercising. Jackman noted no digital touches were applied to his physique in a shot of him rising from the tank within which Wolverine has his bones coated in adamantium.

This is the most awaited movies of all time. It is the sequel to the X-Men hit trilogy. The film has started getting reviews from all over the world before even its release. Millions of people have watched the movie trailers of the upcoming flick. There are many websites that showcase the trailers of the upcoming movies for their promotion.  Today because of internet one can easily watch the biograf most commonly said for trailers in Swedish of his favorite movie online.

History of 3d Comics

The Best Theme Parks For a Family Holiday in France

So, you're taking a family holiday in France, but have no idea where to take the kids? You can't go wrong with theme parks, and thankfully France has got a fair few of them. Here's the pick of the biggest ones, guaranteed to keep the kids quiet (or screaming loudly depending on the ride!) on your family holiday in France.

Any of these makes for a great excursion for all ages - just make sure you leave your hotel in France early, as they get busy quite quickly!

Puy du Fou

Puy du Fou is a bit of a curveball to begin the list - it has no slides, roller coasters or mini trains. Instead you get elaborate shows charting the history of the area, stunning scenery and a fun, educational day out. If the word "educational" is likely to make your kids run for the hills, perhaps you should sell them on the main event: a huge outdoor stage behind the castle-ruins recalls 700 years of the local history on the world's largest stage with thousands of actors, hundreds of horses and around 400 fireworks per performance! Understandably this is quite costly, so is only on in high season - check it's on in advance, but if it is don't hesitate in making this a central part of your family holiday in France.

Parc Asterix

Parc Asterix is a theme park based around the comic book (and subsequent film) adventures of Asterix the Gaul. Despite the licensing deal limiting its scope, it's actually an excellent theme park and a great alternative to Disneyland Paris (which is just 20 miles away). It has a wide range of rollercoasters, themed around characters and places from the books (the log flume takes the form of 'Menhir Express', for example.) Not only is it a great choice for fans of the comic books, but a terrific theme park in its own right for those who love big rollercoasters and thrills while in France. A hotel is on site for those who think they'll spend more than a day there - easily done considering the park's size!

Futuroscope

One of the most famous theme parks in France, and once again breaking the traditional grounds of rollercoasters and waterslides, Futuroscope is a theme park worked entirely around film. With many 3d cinemas and other attractions and shows (some of which are the only examples in the world), the park is an excellent choice for those looking to holiday further south of Paris. Although the films are in French, headsets with translations are available, but to be honest it's more about the experience than the dialogue. The real pick of the attractions is the motion sensitive chairs, which react to the action on screen - just as thrilling as your average rollercoaster!

Disneyland Paris

The Disneyland Park needs no introduction. With an impressive array of rides and all your kids' favourite Disney franchises represented, it's no wonder it's such a popular part of family holidays in France. The pick of the rides has to be Space Mountain - not for the weak of heart, with double corkscrews and 360 degree loop-the-loops in near darkness really testing your mettle! With shows, rides and an incomparable atmosphere, Disneyland is deservedly one of the most famous attractions in France. A hotel is on site, too so you can be within easy reach if you're planning multiple visits.

You're not short of reasons to leave your hotel in France, but there are few attractions as effective as theme parks at keeping the kids happy! Bon voyage!

So wasup with this movie Avatar where soldiers are sent to Pandora?? Its 3D but where does it derive from?

This movie looks awesome 2d but 3d is going to take it to another level, what i want to know is what is it about? Is it based on Comics, Novels, books, anime, etc. If it is i would like to know some links for the books or comics . AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE LAST AIRBENDER , I don't know what the hype is about this movie or its history of what it is but I KNOW FOR SURE AM GONNA GO SEE IT

I was listening to Kevin and Bean on KROQ on Friday morning and they had James Cameron on the show and they talked about this movie. James said that there was nothing really behind the movie. It's not based on a book, game or comic. He had started witting the movie years before he did Titanic, and it's just an idea he had about when he was a kid fascinated with fantasy/science fiction, but he couldn't make the movie until now, because the technology wasn't available yet. I just went on KROQ and found that they have a podcast of the show with the Interview with James Cameron. http://www.kroq.com/ click on the Kevin and Bean link on the left hand side and go to Podcast. It's the first podcast. His Interview is about 53 minutes into the show, so just click on the white bar until you get there.

Also, Here's an article with an Interview with James Cameron about the movie

Female Superheroes

Who Has The Most Beautiful Female Eyes?

When I just scan the latest news about Louis Vuitton handbag at random , an interesting web page attract me , They give a online survey on who has the most beautiful female eyes in the world, which have bring numerous reviews and debate. Frankly speaking, just as the old saying: There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people's eyes. I think every one will have the most beautiful angel or hero in the his or her eyes, including me. I display the top 5 in the list ,who do you think is the NO.1.

1. Audrey Hepburn

Her eyes are beautiful, of course.
Audrey won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role
in Roman Holiday.
2. Elizabeth Taylor

Her blue eyes make the sky look pale.
She won two Oscars, one for each beautiful eye. She won for Best Actress in a Leading Role in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? & Best Actress in a Leading Role in Butterfield 8.
3. Lynda Carter

Azure blue eyes that sparkle are nice.
Lynda was the superhero Wonder Woman and won the 2004 TV Land Award for Superest Super Hero for “Wonder Woman” which aired in 1976.
4. Angelina Jolie

Okay her eyes are drop-dead gorgeous and her lips are incredible.
She is the daughter of Jon Voight and won an Oscar Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Girl, Interrupted in 2000.
5. Aishwarya Rai

Her eyes are truly very beautiful in the world, and that is enough, but just for kicks?
Aishwarya was chosen by Time magazine in 2004 as one of the World’s “100 Most Influential People” and she is widely considered the most beautiful woman in the world and with eyes like that you can “see” why.

Planet of the Apes Comic Books

There are so movie remakes nowadays...are writers struggling to be original?

I'm not complaining, I love all these comic book remake, fairytale stories, and classic remakes, but it seems like the majority of the recent mainstream films are not original screenplays.
...Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Green Lantern, Little Red Riding Hood etc

Is it because production companies are choosing the safe way out and going with a story that's trialed and tested?

Yes, it's the producers going for the safe option. I'm a screenwriter and I know a lot of others, and trust me, we have plenty of original ideas. This is more frustrating for us than anyone!

About the Author

I want to get into the Marvel cross overs(civil war, zombies, Civil war 2 etc)?

I have no idea where to start, I'm a noob when it comes to Marvel comics. All I've collected is Horror comics and I stopped collecting years ago.

So my question is what was the first major crossover event and where do I go from there.

Also where do I start with The Thunderbolts?
By crossovers I mean the marvel multiverse
Like Civil War, where all the marvel characters team up to fight a powerful force
or are fighting each other.

ok first "major" crossover that i can think of would be fall of mutants. that was mainly an x-men cross over. (late 80's)

there were little annual crossovers like the evolutionary war, and Atlantis attacks. (late 80's early 90's)

the first real crossover i can think of would prolly be the infinity gauntlet, then that had two "sequels" infinity war and infinity crusade. (early 90's)

after that the next big crossover i can think of is onslaught. (mid 90's) thats followed by heroes reborn.

ok now in the 2000's it got crazy. i started with avengers disassembled. then to house of M, followed by civil war. then secret invasion.

there are other smaller crossovers that were good. annihilation, annihilation conquest, and war of kings(not a bad trilogy). planet hulk was awesome and it leads into world war hulk.

thunderbolts first appeared in the incredible hulk. i think issue 449. after that i would just start with thunderbolts one and go with that.

and by the way the spider-man superman crossover happened in the mid 70's

Comic Book Script Panel

Can You Use Software For Screenwriting For Free?

One of the most important tools for any filmmaker (whether you're a big wig executive for a major Hollywood studio, or an independent writer/director/dp/editor/producer from Small Town, USA making your first film on a shoestring budget of $1000) is the software used. There are software options for editing (including Final Cut, Avid, Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, and more), production (EP Budgeting, EP Scheduling, Movie Magic, Big Horse, etc.) and animation (Blender, Maya, After Effects, etc). But remember, before the movie can take place, there has to be a script. So naturally, there are software programs for screenwriters.

The two "industry standard" screenwriting programs are Final Draft and Movie Magic's Screenwriter. Both of these programs however are very expensive (hundreds of dollars!). Several years ago, a company called the Greyfirst Corporation developed a free-ware software program called Celtx (which stands for Crew, Equipment, Location, Text, and XML). Celtx is a cross-platform screenwriting program which can be downloaded and used for free, and uses industry approved formatting. More than that, it is also capable of many script formats and even pre-production functions. Let's take a look at all the perks and functions of Celtx.

Multiple Formats. If you want to write a script, Celtx is the program for you, no matter what kind of script you want to write for. The "Film" format will allow you to easily create a properly formatted screenplay for a feature film, short film, or television program. "Audio-Visual" will let you make a script for anything where you need to see exactly what we will see with specific sounds. This can include music videos, infomercials, or anything else where a perfectly synced soundtrack with visuals is needed. The "Theater" format is used to write stage plays, complete with acts and scenes as well as characters and stage direction. "Audio Play" is useful for creating radio shows similar to the old Superman radio shows or even modern radio commercials. "Storyboard" lets you create a storyboard for a project. This option listed later as it is also an option in the production tools. If creating a comic book is more your speed, you can use the "Comic Book" feature to outline pages, panels, captions and speech bubbles. There is also just a "text" function, if you prefer, to just take the place of word processing programs such as Word.

Index cards. One very useful Celtx tool is the "index cards" feature. Sometimes when you are working on a script... maybe doing re-writes, you may decide that your script would work better if a few of the scenes were in different places. This can easily be accomplished with the index cards. While writing your script, you will notice that your scene numbers appear listed in a box at the lower left of the screen. In that same box, there is a small black symbol which reads "index card heading". You can use this to label each index card for each scene, or not use it and have the entire scene show up on the index card. Then, when you are ready to start rearranging, click the "Index Cards" tab at the bottom of the screen. This will bring you a screen full of index cards. If you filled in what the headings will be, you will see them on the cards now, if not they will be blank. Simply click the "Show script" button at the top of the screen to reveal the scenes on the cards. You can now click and drag a card to anywhere in the sequence to change the order of the cards. Once the cards are moved, the scenes in the actual script will appear in this new order.

Typeset. This is where you can see what your script actually looks like on the printed page. You can also alter how it will look as well as save it as a PDF file to be shared with others via e-mail. If you click "Save PDF", you will get a PDF file of your script (pretty self explanatory). If you click "Format Options", you can change paper size, whether or not to show scene numbers (for a shooting script), have page breaks, and have "MOREs" and "CONTINUED's" for dialogs, characters, and scenes.

Add. Near the VERY top of the screen in Celtx is an "Add" button. This has many features attached that are useful for your pre-production endeavors. From here you can add storyboards for your script, catalog all your characters and locations and props, make various types of schedules (calendar, one-liners, or call sheets), and even add descriptions for characters and scenes including the total pages and in what scenes they appear.

Web Services. For a fee, you can also make use of the online community for Celtx called Celtx Studio. This allows to you store back-ups of your scripts, and even share your scripts with others for collaborative writing efforts or for quickly distributing the script to your crew.

While many of the "Hollywood Types" might look down on Celtx because of it's free "no budget" aspect, once you've formatted everything properly and printed up a copy of the PDF version of the script and hold it side-by-side with a Final Draft printed copy, you cannot even tell the difference. There might be a small change in the spacing between the two, but if you are looking at the PDF of a Celtx-made script, you will never know if it was made in Celtx or Final Draft. Of course, if you can afford Final Draft software, by all means get it!

Can someone give me tips to writing a graphic novel/comic book script?

I'm working on a graphic novel called Chancre Scolex MIddle School and I wanted some help on writing a script. How do I figure out how to put an action into a panel onto a page in a script?

If you wanna read my comic's synopsis, here's the link:

http://questionnorm.blogspot.com

A lot of it depends on whether you'll also be doing the art, or if you're handing the script off to another person to draw. However, for practice at least, you may want to try what's called "full script" at first, even if you don't need to.

http://www.eyrie.org/~dvandom/ASH/CSS5 is something I recently wrote using a full script style adapted from comic writer Christopher Priest. It can also help to do thumbnails (little drawings where a page is only a couple inches tall) to rough out panel layout and basic positions when scripting, a step I didn't use in the piece above, but I did use for http://www.eyrie.org/~dvandom/misc/Patents2 (written 7 years ago).

Blondie and Dagwood

The Dagwood Syndrome

The other day my husband and I were watching the Rachel Ray show.   She made what looked to be a beautiful sandwich topped with everthing from sausage to vegetables nicely placed on a hoagie roll.  We both sat there, mouths watering as she carefully placed every morsel on this lovely sandwich.  We both agreed that we would love to buy the ingredients and make the lunch sometime.

I really like the Rachel Ray show and have tried out many meals that she has shown how to make on her program and they all seem to turn out really good.  Although the sandwich she had made on this day looked wonderful I couldn't help but to picture myself eating this monstrosity and all my hard work in preparig it landing on my lap.  I am a messy eater by nature.   My husband on the other hand was still dazzled by the sandwich.  I told him I wondered why the hosts on segments of most of the T.V. shows usually made such large sandwiches.  They were meals on bread that the average human could not possibly wrap their mouth around.  My husband then explained to me that this was called a man sandwich.  He said that large sandwiches like this one were made popular with the Blondie comic strip.  He mentioned  that Blondie's husband, Dagwood, would go into the refridgerator and find anything that he could pile up and make a sandwich because that was the only food he knew how to make.   He said that the sandwich was named the Dagwood sandwich.  I thought that he was joking until I looked it up on the internet and sure enough the sandwich, comic strip, and it's Dagwood name were explained.

Unfortunately, "The Man Sandwich" alias "Dagwood" is a bit large for me so I would make my sandwich with half of the ingredients grilled maybe and I would call my simple flattened tasty little sandwich what else but the "Blondie".

About the Author

I am a want to be writer. I took a course in writing children's books years ago and loved it. The problem is giving myself a push to write on a regular basis. When it's up to par it feels like writing comes together like a puzzle but when I'm not in the mood it shows in my writing.

I found a blondie cartoon about a month ago, & now can't locate it. Blondie & fam. in 1940's w/american flags.

blondie and cookie are in blue dresses with white polka dots and dagwood has a blue bowtie. Cookie looks to be 3-4 years old.

I know the blondie cartoons were printed in books the way dilbert strips are now. Go to worldcat.org and search book titles.

The very patriotic stuff comes from early in the war. Most probably 1942.

Hope that helps.

Transformers Comic Book

Transformers Is A Movie That Will Become A Classic

When it was announced in 2005 that Michael Bay, the director of such hits as Pearl Harbor and Armageddon, would bring the classic 1980's cartoon Transformers to the big screen, fan boys and fan girls met the news with a rather mixed reaction. With rumors circling around the movie fans were both ready to jeer and cheer.

For those unaware of the animated series, here is a brief description. On the planet Cybertron, there is a war for the source of life (the Allspark) of its robotic inhabitants. These robots, consisting of both the righteous and kind Autobots, and the malicious and cruel Decepticons, fight to either preserve peace or to conquer the universe.

They're war spans the universe until they finally land on our planet and take the forms of cars (Autobots) or airplanes (Decepticons). As the war progresses, the Autobots are befriended by the human Sam Spike Witwicky as they try to find the Allspark. The Autobots are led by the wise Optimus Prime while the Decepticons are led by the villainous Megatron.

Now, the plot of the film, like any book, comic book, or TV adaptation, has it's own fair share of deviances from the source material, but this is one of those rare instances where that would be considered a good thing.

In this version, Sam Witwicky's encounters with the Autobots and Decepticons are not by mere chance. He is being sought by both sides because he has a pair of glasses that belong to his ancestor, an explorer, that also reveal the location of the Allspark. Siding with the Autobots and the United States Military, Sam sets out to find the Allspark before the Decepticons get it and claim victory.

This film boasts a cast of fresh faces with Shia LaBeouf as Sam, Megan Fox, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, John Voigt, and featuring Hugo Weaving as Megatron, and original voice actor Peter Cullen reprising his role as Optimus Prime. The acting is fluently delivered and fairly realistic given the story.

One problem the movie does have is that it is a difficult concept to make an audience believe in, but if one can simply get over the fact that it isn't exactly Shakespeare, then it should be a surprisingly good time. It should also be pointed out that the special effects in this film are absolutely breath-taking. So, if you'd like a movie that has amazing visuals, good acting, and a story deeper than most action movies, then Transformers is definitely for you.
