Comic Book Joker

The Lighter Side of the Dark

The recent release of The Dark Knight comes following months of eager anticipation that has been palpable since the untimely death of one of its stars. But what really is the appeal of the movie?

As a fan of Batman from the original comic books and television series through to the debut performance of Christian Bale in 'Batman Begins', I had built up in my own mind the latest installment from British director Christopher Nolan as being something special. Fortunately, I was not to be disappointed.

In the same way as the preceding movie, the sheer darkness and gripping storytelling of the film keeps the audience captivated from start to finish. This time around, however, Nolan and his co-writer brother Jonathan added lighter moments in a script that could otherwise have only had a rich, maudlin quality coupled with fast-paced action scenes. But with a lead character named The Joker, an element of humour - no matter how dark - was always going to be demanded.

Much has been written about the performance of the late Heath Ledger in the role of The Joker, the majority of which I had previously discounted as little more than the usual eulogies so often reserved for the recently departed. Yet the transformation of the actor into the maniacal yet hugely entertaining villain of the piece was nothing short of remarkable.

Trailers featuring The Joker offered only a slight glimpse into the full scope of a character that requires sole attention when on screen. The level of humour and fear that he instills in the viewer is as exciting as any action scene throughout the entirety of the movie. Whether his performance deserves a posthumous Oscar or not we shall see, but the pencil trick should go down as one of the most darkly amusing scenes in modern cinema!

Equally as transfixing was the performance of Bale as the eponymous hero. Reviving the mystique and intensity that was (among much more) so embarrassingly missing from the Joel Schumacher movies, the performances of Bale in both The Dark Knight and, in particular, Batman Begins have created a character that the viewer can immediately identify and empathise with. An incredible feat considering the limited screen time Bale is given throughout the course of the more recent movie.

If I had to criticise anything about the film, however, it would only be due to my own selfishness. Like discovering a new musical artist at their rawest (and arguably best), the wide-reaching appeal of the film takes the personal, less commercialised feel of it away from the viewer. However, any movie derived from a comic book is guaranteed to appeal to great audiences, and the unscrupulous nature of film producers will want as many people as possible to buy cinema tickets.

But for me, films of limited appeal and whose audiences grow through word of mouth only serve to add to the romance of movies as an art form. But then again, to leave this magnificent piece of film work out of reach of the masses would be a crime.

Heroes and the Comic Book Revolution

The comic book revolution in today's modern pop culture has been more or less unheralded. Although a major coup in the world of geekdom, the mainstream press has regarded the increase in mass-market comic book entertainment as nothing more than a passing trend.

The popularity of comic book entertainment is no trend, nor will it pass any time soon. For no other reason than stubbornness, the bigwigs in charge of the entertainment industry had, in the past, not given comic books and their fans the proper due. There has always been an audience for big-budget super hero films, but those films were never treated with respect until the year 2000. As this insightful BuddyTV article shows, the release of the Bryan Singer directed "X-Men" in 2000 set the wheels in motion for the evolution of comic book entertainment. Since "X-Men's" massive success, the studio heads have changed their tune and are now fully committed to satiating the rabid super hero fan base.

Now that comic books have conquered the big screen, it was time for them to turn their attention to television. "Heroes" on NBC is a shining example of what the comic book culture can bring to a wide, national television audience. Comic books have provided serial drama long before the likes of "Lost" and "24" did. Frankly, there is no better medium for comic books than television; the stories can take their time to build and evolve. Heroes has done its very best to please comic die-hards while also creating an engrossing drama appropriate for mass consumption.

For a wonderful and succinct recap of the evolution of comic book entertainment that eventually led to the creation of NBC's "Heroes", check out BuddyTV's smart and insightful article.

New Campaign for 2007 Jeep Patriot

The 2007 Jeep Patriot has a new kind of campaign - and it sure is not going to use the usual blend of television, radio, and print campaigns.

The new campaign is known to have a cutting edge appeal. And it is surely going to surprise most of us. See, the 2007 Jeep Patriot is going to be brought to the knowledge of the consumers through a whole new internet experience wherein consumers and visitors would be able to get to know the vehicle in its whole package.

It can be remembered that last February the brand had sent out that campaign called “The Patriot Factor” which is quite unique. It is a combination of the Jeep brand and Marvel Comics’ characters. This has been made to be a comic book but can be read and accessed online. Readers would be shown the adventures that would follow a storyline depending on who is reading. It is part of the whole new scheme of marketing the Jeep Patriot and consumers are given that chance to have a “choose your own adventure” kind of game.

The additional marketing strategy is now already launched and it is known as “The Way Beyond Trail”. This time around, it is an online film made to be interactive. If they choose to, consumers and visitors can be part of a whole adventure by joining the three other characters shown on the monitor. They would be driving a Jeep Patriot, going through different locations without much noise, thanks to Nissan mufflers, and then they would be on the hunt for buried treasure.

Jay Kuhnie, the director of Jeep Communications, is proud of these strategies and he shares, “'The Way Beyond Trail' and 'The Patriot Factor' combine the timeless magic of story-telling with the power and reach of the Internet. Both applications allow us to engage prospective customers of the Jeep Patriot in an environment that is interactive and entertaining, which resonates well with them.”

To access these Jeep creations, you can visit www.patriotadventure.com starting March 15.

What do u think about this poem?

Talented Family

My family’s very talented;
I’m certain you’ll agree.
We each possess a special skill
That anyone can see.
My brother’s good at burying
his finger up his nose.
My sister’s good at covering
her room with dirty clothes.

My father’s good at eating soup
in big, disgusting slurps.
My mother’s good at cutting loose
with record-breaking burps.

Our dog is good at piddling
in the backseat of the car.
The baby’s good at putting
Pop-Tarts in the VCR.

Myself, I’m good at sleeping late
and making lots of noise
and cluttering the living room
with comic books and toys.

So though we’re very talented,
I’m sad to say it’s true:
We’re only good at doing things
we’re not supposed to do.
Oh....this is not actually about my family.

Hilariously funny!

Very good. Congrats.

How to Manage Your Email & Inbox – Lessons 16-20

Wasn't e-mail supposed to make our life less complicated? Do you find yourself spending way too much time on e-mail every day? Would you like to reduce the size of your ever expanding inbox? That's why I have put together my new book called "The E-mail Manual". It is the book you should have received when you first started using e-mail. I think if everybody had a copy of this book on their desks and read it before they started using e-mail, there would be a fewer problems and issues with using and managing e-mail. Please enjoy these 5 email strategies. Be on the lookout for my other articles on how to better manage your e-mail and reduce the size of your inbox.

16. Delete junk emails as fast as they arrive (and set up the spam filter)

Don’t let your email box fill up with spam, newsletters, or emails that you will not read again.  An empty Inbox is an efficient email box. Learn how to use the ‘junk Email’ filter so that you won't keep getting email from people or organisations you don't want to hear from again.

17. Set outlook up to empty your deleted items mail box every time you exit

Not a lot of good can come from hundreds of deleted items in your deleted folder in Outlook.

Get rid of it every day (at at least every week) by setting up the option of deleting email every time you exit Outlook.

If you have Emails in there you want to save, don’t delete them in the first place; instead put them in a folder to read later.

18. Be sure you understand the difference between cc and bcc

CC stands for Courtesy Copy and BCC stands for Blind Courtesy Copy. The difference is that if you are sending an email to one person and wants others to see the Email, you add the email addresses of others who you want to see the email also and put their addresses in the CC box. The email is not for them to action. It is simply a courtesy to them in the loop.

If you want to send the message to someone else but not disclose that you are doing so, you use BCC. Blind Courtesy Copy sends that person a copy of the Email, however their name is not shown to the others who also receive the Email.

The pros and cons of Blind Courtesy Copy?

CON

Some people use blind courtesy copy as a way of protecting their butts. In other words, they will surreptitiously put the email address of their manager in the BCC area.

While including your manager as a silent receiver can sometimes be a good idea (as a simple courtesy or to keep them informed of your progress with a client), it's rather sneaky if you are including them for ulterior motives or ‘political’ reasons.

PROS

One of the advantages of using BCC would be sending out something like a request or a memo to a group of suppliers or providers that are all competitors. For example you might want to get a price on a particular product from half a dozen of your preferred suppliers.

First of all, you don't want all of the suppliers to know who you buy from. Second of all you don't want each of them to know who you are sending this email to. It would make good sense to place all of the email addresses of your suppliers in the BCC area.

Obviously when you send out the email you will not be addressing it to a particular person so there will be no need for a formal greeting with a person's name at the very beginning of the Email.

19. Don’t use 'Emoticons’' or other   email shorthand for business

Smiley faces and other ‘emoticons’ can add a nice touch when emailing friends or when using SMS on your mobile phone. It's common for people to text you with phrases such as LOL for ‘Laugh out Loud’, SYS for ‘See You Soon’ or FYI to say ‘For Your Information’.

So what is the business rule for using emoticons, acronyms and other abbreviations such as these?

It’s a simple rule – don’t. Treat every work email like a business conversation on the phone.

After all, you want your email to be taken seriously so stay away from anything cute or trendy when it comes to work Emails. Leave the fun stuff for your Hotmail or Gmail account. Work email is strictly for business.

20. Stay away from fancy fonts, colours or special effects

A business email that is dressed up with frilly stationary and other special effects lessens the business impact of the communication.

Fonts such as Tahoma 10 point  or Calibri 11 point are the best fonts to use for sending and reading Email.

Stay away from fonts such as Comic Sans and Times New Roman for Email.

Times New Roman is great as a printed font, but not so good for reading off a computer monitor.

Comic Sans is a very cute, child-like font. It is great for casual, personal Emails, but quite inappropriate in a corporate setting.

Fonts help?

I need to find the following fonts:

1 - The font used to display the episode titles in Teen Titans animated series from season 2 onwards

2 - Font used to display the current Batman logo in the comic books. (Not any of the TV series)

Mainstream U.s. Media Controlled by Conservatives

From a national survey by “Fair” which showed that the idea that the mainstream media have a "liberal bias" has long been conventional wisdom. At various times, public figures and media personalities from Richard Nixon, Newt Gingrich, Bill O'Reilly, Neil Cavuto, Sean Hannity and Rupert Murdoch of Fox Networks (Rupert Murdoch now major stock holder of “The Wall Street Journal) they and others have all taken refuge in the claim that the "liberal" media were out to get them. A legion of conservative talk show hosts, pundits and media-watch groups pound away at the idea that the media exhibit an inherently "liberal" tilt. But the assertion is based on remarkably little evidence and is repeatedly made in the face of contradictory facts.

In particular, the conservative critique of the news media rests on two general propositions: (1) journalists' views are to the left of the public, and (2) journalists frame news content in a way that accentuates these left perspectives. Researchers and analysts have discovered persuasive evidence against the latter claim. Content analyses of the news media have, at a minimum, shown the absence of any such systematic liberal/left tilt; some studies have found a remarkably predictable press usually reflecting the narrow range of views of those in positions of power, as well as a spectrum of expert opinion that tilts toward the right.

The report goes on to say that the powerful corporate interests which own and sponsor the news media ensure that news content never strays too far, for too long, from protecting the status quo. You don't understand the corporate ideology of General Motors by studying the personal beliefs of the assembly-line workers, the argument goes. Ideological orientation is introduced and enforced by those high in the organizational hierarchy who have the power to hire and fire, to reward and punish. Working journalists, despite their sometimes high visibility, usually do not call the shots in the nation's media corporations. (The documentary "Fear and Favor in the Newsroom" provides vivid illustrations of this situation.) Consequently, the private views of individual journalists often matter little.

The latest available stats show that most mainstream media is owned and/or controlled by the conservative lift. Large corporations and the wealthy are able to weld major political clout because of their media holdings. In turn they are collectively able to shape government policy by controlling the slant of the mainstream news.

Sega Genesis Comic Book Game

From Blast-Off to Lift-Off- The Sonic the Hedgehog Jump to Other Media

Sonic the Hedgehog is a creation nearly twenty years in age that has proven its worth not only in the success of its original video game release and subsequent sequels, but also in the worlds of comics and television.

Following the adventures of a little blue speed demon as he does battle with Dr. Robotnik and strives to free his captive friends, the Sonic the Hedgehog series is one that has introduced myriad new worlds and characters across many incarnations.

Some friends, some foes, all fun!

It all started in April 1990. After Sega asked its research and development department to create a new icon for a new decade, Sonic the Hedgehog was born. With the 16-bit Sega Genesis system on the horizon, Sonic the Hedgehog was just the product that would show gamers how far video games had come in the five short years since the debut of Super Mario Bros.

And show them, it did!

Followed a year later by Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the universe was growing. With Miles Prower, or "Tails" for short, Sonic had a new ally in the fight against Dr. Robotnik. Two years after that, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 debuted and brought with it the introduction of Knuckles the echidna. Unlike Tails, Knuckles was a rival instead of a prot?.

The creation of Knuckles was a huge success and led to a co-headlined follow-up, Sonic and Knuckles, in which the pair must overcome their differences to stop another takeover by Dr. Robotnik before it is too late. It was clear to see, at this point, that Sonic the Hedgehog's world of adventure was only just beginning to flourish. Since then, there has been a host of new characters join the danger and the fun. So many the video game series could no longer contain them!

If the games are not enough, watch for Sonic and Friends (and Enemies) in these other media outlets:

* Sonic Comics: Since 1992, Sonic the Hedgehog has been a fixture in comic books and manga with seven different series, including three from famed American publisher Archie Comics, two of which are still going strong.

* Sonic Gamebooks: Choose your own adventure with one of six Sonic gamebooks. These allow the reader to affect the story by making choices throughout that affect the events of the overall narration.

* Sonic Novels: Published by multiple houses, there have been eighteen novels written that explore and expand the Sonic the Hedgehog Universe.

* Sonic Animated: Sonic the Hedgehog has made one of its biggest impacts in the world of animated entertainment. With the youthful Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, in which Family Matters' Steve Urkel, Jaleel White himself, became the first voice of Sonic, and the edgier Sonic the Hedgehog, there have been nearly 75 individual episodes and an animated feature film to the blue speedster's credit.

Twenty years strong, Sonic shows no signs of stopping. With every new generation, it is likely he will be buzz-sawing his way to victory over the forces of darkness for some time to come. Whether it is in video games, comic books, novels, cartoons, or feature films, Sonic the Hedgehog is here to stay.

Comic Books Store Locator

1. Hobby storage cabinets for the 21st century

Every hobbyist needs accurate storage solutions, from wire shelves to plastic storage bins. With the focus these days on home makeovers and de-cluttering your home, the need for good, effective storage solutions has never been greater. This list of storage solutions for the "big five" hobbies that cause the most clutter (namely scrapbooking, mechanical repairs, fly-fishing, arts and crafts and DIY), will expand your knowledge of how to keep your rooms tidy!

  • Scrapbooking

This hobby is taking the world by storm! All around the nation women (and men) are getting together to create long-lasting memories on boards and in books that will appeal to all age groups. Some do it for their own keepsakes, some do it for gifts for others, but all do it for their pleasure. However, what is not such a great aspect of this hobby is the clutter that comes with it. From pencils to paper, scissors to stickers, clutter abounds with this craft. Make sure you know which storage container is right for you!

  1. Deep satchels: The traditional "sewing box" storage container offers a multiplicity of locations for your pens and stickers. However, not all satchels are wide or long enough for your needs, so shop around before you invest.
  2. Interlocking storage cabinets: Divide and conquer with these modular cabinets. Each cabinet has deep drawers, dividing your clutter into visible sections while enabling you to customise your cabinets in any way that suits you. For effective storage, the interlocking capabilities of these cabinets and drawers allow you to add and detract as you see fit!

For an effective storage solution for your hobby room, either of these two solutions will aid in your de-cluttering campaign!

  • Mechanical repairs

For those of you with bigger aspirations for your vehicle, storage solutions must be large and easily cleaned unless you appreciate the stains of grease and oil. As most mechanical repairs take place in the garage of your home, the storage should effectively take the clutter away from the floor and up onto the walls or roof. From hammers to hinges, oil canisters to spare spark plugs, there is a large, easily cleanable storage solution for you!

  1. Tip out bins: Plastic bins that are able to tip out are perfect for larger implements of your hobby. For instance, clear plastic storage bins are an ideal way of storing delicates which need to be viewed before they are pulled off the shelf.
  2. The correct shelving makes all the difference! Wire shelving is an excellent solution for any heavy material, as it can take the knocks and support the heavy materials that an ordinary shelf may not be able to handle.
  3. A workshop is a messy environment. This is where having a thick plastic bin comes into play. Having a bin made from black material hides the dirt and grime which is ever-present. Stackable storage crates also minimises the amount of space needed and provide a neat solution for a cramped environment.
  • Comic  book collecting

Yes it’s true; the tried and tested method of storing comic books in cardboard boxes is officially passé. Water, dust and nosy little brothers are all capable of damaging your most valuable Spiderman or Superman comics.

  1. Do not forget to use acid-free backing boards when sealing your comics in their plastic covers. Your safest bet would be to then store them in stackable storage containers for safekeeping.

Apple Ipad Ibooks App - Download Unlimited Apple Ipad Ibooks For Free

Apple Ipad Ibooks App - Download Unlimited Apple Ipad Ibooks for Free

Ibooks is the coolest app on Apple Ipad.

If you tap the iBooks icon and your bookshelf appears. In the upper-left corner, you'll find the Store button. Tap it and the bookshelf flips around like a secret passageway to reveal the iBookstore, where you can browse tens of thousands of books

Unlike a paper book — or ebooks on other devices — you can change iBooks on iPad to suit the way you read. Turn iPad to portrait to view a single page. Or view two pages at once by rotating to landscape. Change the text size. Even change the font. Touch and hold any word to look it up in the built-in dictionary or Wikipedia, or to search for it throughout the book and on the web. Use the Bookmarking feature to highlight text and refer to it later. iBooks works with VoiceOver, the screen reader in iPad, so it can read you the contents of any page. Even with all these extras, reading is so natural on iPad, the technology seems to disappear.

You'll find tens of thousands of books on the iBookstore, and more arrive every day. The iBooks app uses the ePub format — the most popular open book format in the world. That makes it easy for publishers to create iBooks versions of your favorite reads. And you can add free ePub titles to iTunes on your Mac or PC and sync them to the iBooks app on your iPad. This means, just like Apple iTunes and iPod, ipad can play various non-DRM audio / video files including MP3 & the MP4 (AAC, newer version of MP3).

But the real thing is that, you have to pay almost $13 for each book you download from ibooksore which costs you quite a lot, if you would like to fill your ibookshelf with your favorites

My Pad Media - Download Unlimited Apple Ipad Ibooks for Free

  • Huge Media Selection

Rather than having to face the inconvenience of paying fifteen dollars on iTunes per book, you can now access thousands of texts from the comfort of your very own home for a one-off upfront payment (One time membership fee of $49.95 works out to just 0.2 cents per ibook download...but you'll get more & more value as my pad media library is ever growing and new titles are added regularly.....I would consider My Pad Media as 'free' rather...compare 0.2 cents Vs $14.99)

The quick downloads make this site particularly appealing as there will be no frustrating waits when you are desperate to read the next novel in a series! The site is clearly laid out with simple instructions on how to download, anyone, even the least tech-savvy bookworm, can use myPadMedia.

So you have to look no further than myPadmedia where an endless library awaits every reader. Bookstores are things of the past; myPadMedia is the bright and effervescent future.
