What blogs do you love?

I already have several blogs in my feed, but I'm always open to more... especially those that are funny, educational, or just plain intriguing.

A sample of what I read regularly: Pharyngula, Post Secret, Passive-Aggressive Notes, The Church of Jesus F*cking Christ (no offense intended, that is its name), Saint Gasoline, and the Comics Curmudgeon.

So, what blogs do you reccommend? I'd be particularly interested in those that deal with science and LGBTQ (especially T) issues. But anything is good!

http://www.johnlifequotes.blogspot.com/

Try my blog, if you find my blog to be interesting or not, feel free to add some comments, I'm always open in what other people think.

2010 French Quarter Festival, Nab Show, Country Music Awards, Tribeca Film Festival, Focal Awards, Highlight April Media Industry Events

The 2010 International Experimental Media Congress, the first Congress of its kind since the 1989 Toronto Experimental Film Congress, will assemble film, video, new media artists, theorists, archivists, and curators from around the world, who will be in Toronto through April 11 for panels and discussions related to experimental media production, exhibition, dissemination, criticism, pedagogy and reception. The International Film Festival Summit (IFFS) is an annual conference and trade show for professionals from the film festival industry who will be in Amsterdam through April 9 to participate in presentations, interactive panel discussions and networking events, and to look forward to the Dinner With Strangers event that allows attendees a unique and fun opportunity to meet and dine with festival colleagues from all over the world. The 2010 French Quarter Festival, opening April 9-11, highlights New Orleans' signature music, food, and culture in the historic neighborhood, mostly by a musical smorgasbord of jazz, r&b, funk, folk, opera, gospel, blues, and brass bands, but also with over 105 food and beverage booths located in Jackson Square, Woldenberg Riverfront Park, and the Louisiana State Museum's Old U.S. Mint, forming the "World's Largest Jazz Brunch" with local cuisines from the area's finest restaurants including such festival favorites as Jambalaya, Crawfish Bread, Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice, Muffaletta, Crawfish, and more.

The annual National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference and expo for professionals who create filmed entertainment, and the development, management and delivery of content across all mediums and platforms, happens this year from April 10-15 in Las Vegas. Comic strip icon, Stan Lee (co-creator of Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, Silver Surfer), will be at this year's event, and the NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) in partnership with the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and Radio-Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) will host its annual spring Career Fair at the NAB Show. Nailing Jello Productions conducts a short film screening, fundraiser and panel discussion on how independent filmmakers are using social and emerging media to fundraise, market and distribute their films at an event conducted in New York City on April 14. Tours and activities in Wine Country sets the theme for the Sonoma International Film Festival as activities interwoven into the festival's daily screenings, happening April 14-18. Leading off the Sonoma Festival will be the world premiere of the documentary, "Coals to Newcastle", about one of Britain's cutting-edge funk bands, the New Mastersounds, who will be in town for the festival and perform live after the screening.

The Beverly Hills Film Festival, a competition festival dedicated to showcasing non-studio films and screenplays of emerging filmmakers in the city generally recognized as the headquarters for VIPs to the motion picture industry, is now in its tenth year, opening for a run from April 14-18, while treating festival goers to nightly theme parties, seminars, and a charity benefit. Nashville Film Festival, an Academy qualifier for short films, opens April 15 this year, through April 22, and because it takes place in "Music City" it is only natural that part of the focus be on music in films. So in addition to the many films about music and the Music Films in Music City awards, NaFF presents showcases, workshops, and other events where songwriters and artists come together with film professionals from Hollywood and around the world to promote collaboration. The 45th Academy of Country Music Awards will broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas on CBS television network Sunday, April 18 at 8 pm (EST), hosted by Reba McEntire. For those fortunate to attend the Awards live in Las Vegas, the ACM All-Star Jam follows the award ceremony featuring impromptu performances from artists who participated in the Awards show. Mediabistro hosts an April 20 L.A. Cocktail Party for professionals in the media industry.  Conversation will be geared toward the latest media industry developments as party hosts, Write On! Online freelance writer, Debra Eckerling, and Kaiser Permanente senior web editor, Michelle Thatcher, help you enjoy yourself and make some great connections.

The mission of the Rincón International Film Festival is to support and promote culture and the arts in Puerto Rico through the medium of film. Rincón, Puerto Rico is also a Surfer's paradise, so the festival is also looking to screen great surfing films, particularly at the beachfront resorts that will be used as screening venues during the festival run, April 20-25. The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) is a nonprofit organization devoted to a greater appreciation of Indian cinema and culture by showcasing films, honoring entertainment industry performers and business executives, and promoting the diverse perspectives of the Indian diaspora. Awards will be presented on April 22 (the festival itself runs April 20-25) at the IFFLA Industry Leadership Award Luncheon held at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. The show will include performances by TAAL Dance Collective. Championing the short film format, Filmfest Dresden promotes a film category which is mostly disregarded by cinemas and television. This year, Filmfest Dresden is supplementing its film programmes with an extensive range of special events discussions, receptions and get-togethers such as on April 22 when the Saxony Film Association, the German Short Film Association, Filmfest Dresden, the School-goers Cinema Dresden, the Dresden Narrow Gauge Festival and other institutes are holding a reception where people will have an opportunity to get together for mutual exchanges.

As it usually does, the Tribeca Film Festival in New York will host many free events during its run from April 21 to May 5, for film fans and families, including: Tribeca Drive-In, an outdoor screening series that takes place at the World Financial Center Plaza, where you can watch professional salsa dancers, listen to live salsa music, enter dancing contests, and even take salsa lessons, following the screening of the HBO documentary The Spirit of Salsa. Then there will be the Tribeca Talks: Industry panels touching on all aspects of the filmmaking trade, and The Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day. Opening on April 22 until April 26, Palm Beach International Film Festival, started in 1996 to give the area a foothold in the film industry as well as to benefit the area's community schools through grant and scholarship awards, will emphasize its newly formed Friends of the PBIFF, which offers an array of fun-filled events to raise funds and awareness on a year-round basis for the PBIFF. Founded in 1957, the San Francisco International Film Festival, running April 22 to May 6, is thought to be one of the longest-running film festival in the Americas. This year, SFIFF has an line-up of narrative feature films, live action and animated shorts, television and theatrical documentaries, experimental work, digital media, and industry panels, seminars, awards events, onstage tributes, retrospectives, and the well regarded Schools at the Festival program, which brings an estimated 4,200 grade school students into the festival.

ShowBiz Expo Los Angeles is the west coast counterpart to the show held in New York City in March — but runs for two days, April 24-25. Like New York the Los Angeles Expo includes a wide range of networking opportunities including the Exhibit Hall, Workshops/Seminars, Round Table Discussions, Headshot Displays, etc., and most importantly, live audition opportunities for which there is limited enrollment on a first come basis. MUSEEXPO 2010 will be in Los Angeles from April 25-28, and will incorporate the intimate format that marked its beginnings as organic networking dinners organized by A&R Network and A&R Worldwide architect Sat Bisla, aimed at bringing together friends and like-minded relationships from the global radio, A&R, film/TV music supervision, publishing, new media and artist management communities. In London on April 27, noted film director and FOCAL International's Chair of Patrons, Lord David Putnam, opens the FOCAL International Awards festivities with a champagne reception sponsored by AP Archive, followed by a three-course dinner. FOCAL was formed in 1985 as an international, non-profit professional trade association representing commercial film/audiovisual, stills and sound libraries. The black tie and evening cocktail attire affair ends late with an after party also sponsored by AP Archive.

The above events are only a sample of what is fully listed. Complete details are on the "Media, Entertainment and Performing Arts Industry News and Events" page. Video and podcast versions of this news summary are also available at popular video sites around the Web like MySpace, YouTube, Daily Motion, as well as on The Actor's Checklist podcast blog. Follow the posting of the news summary on Twitter. Last month on the video news summary you saw new video from newly released single on iTunes - Make Your Move - from UK's soulful, R&B songstress, Bukola. Music producing Padded Cell Productions of Toronto with a newly released art film, Jane Doe. And there was the "spiritual fusion of acoustic sitar experimental chanting spoken word improvisation"  of Scot Aaron and Govinda Schlegel who form Shaman Strings. These videos are now available on the Free Home Video Showcase which now serves as an archive for all past video presentations but without the audio news narration.

COMIC books seem to be the default resource pool for producers today, but Kick-Ass is not your average superhero movie. As creator Mark Millar writes in the making-of book, the movies could “redefine superhero movies in the same way Pulp Fiction redefined crime movies”.

Comic-Con...it's not just about comic books

It's the ultimate. The extreme. The biggest event in the world if you're a sci-fi fantasy enthusiast, comic or video artist! It's the one and only Comic-Con in San Diego.

From July 20th through the 24th, over 100,000 attendees, industry professionals and countless exhibitors will converge in the San Diego Convention center. Aspiring artists will meet at Artist's Alley and take part in Comic-Con's Portfolio Review. Autograph hounds will mob the Autograph area to meet cast members from their favorite TV shows and movies.

On Saturday, the beloved and venerated Ray Bradbury will be signing autographs from 2 to three p.m. Bradbury is the author of such timeless classics as The Illustrated Man, Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Martian Chronicles, and Fahrenheit 451. Some of these great works have been adapted into comic book and cinematic form. His biography, The Bradbury Chronicles, The Life of Ray Bradbury, was recently released in paperback.

Also attending will be Roger Corman, an indie filmmaking legend and who has spent over 50 years in Hollywood. In addition to creating such iconic classics as Little Shop of Horrors film, Roger Corman also mentored some of Hollywood's top talent --including directors like Ron Howard and James Cameron.

Trekkers will gather around the autograph table of Walter Koenig, one of Star Trek's original TV crew members—Chekov. Besides creating an unforgettable character in the original series and the seven movies that followed, Koenig also appeared on Babylon 5 and is an accomplished writer and filmmaker.

Returning to Comic-Con International this year will be The Star Wars Fan Film Awards. The award ceremony scheduled for Thursday night at 8:30 in Ballroom 20 will showcase the best of this year's competition, plus an exclusive world premiere especially for Star Wars fans. The winner will take home one of the Fan Film trophies. Attendees will also be treated to the very first public showing of Return of Pink Five: Volume Two. Films entered in the Star Wars Fan Film Awards competition are required to meet set guidelines and performance standards, plus be less than 10 minutes long. The films can be a parody of the existing Star Wars universe, experimental, or a documentary of the Star Wars fan experience.

For Anime fans, Comic-Con is a true feast. Anime, or Japanese animation, as many know, has grown to become one of the fastest-growing aspects of Comic-Con. Screenings continue to gather record-setting crowds. This year, Comic-Con's anime will include over 130 different titles, including popular fan favorites, newer releases, and sneak previews of soon to be releases. As always, Comic-Con will provide a convenient guide to the schedule with room locations and brief synopses and titles.

So come one, come all to the greatest show on earth. Bring your costumes, dress up and be part of the fun. It's all happening at Comic-Con 2006 in San Diego!

Superman Comic Art

Release Your Inner Hero With Superman Cufflinks

Superman is a timeless figure that is known by everyone, regardless of age and race. Since 1938, this superhero has starred in many comic books, cartoons and movies. His image can also be found in cards and action figures. And, even though many improvements have been made in the comic art due to the advances in printing technology, the red and yellow S on his chest has remained the same throughout the ages. And, its appeal to the public has never faded. As a matter of fact, anyone who sees this icon will be able to recognize it. That S can only stand for one person - Superman!

Be A Superhero Too!

How does one define a superhero? With the way he can wear tights and run around with a cape, he must be a very confident individual who can easily express himself without fear of ridicule or disapproval. Release the superhero within you by allowing the world to see who you are. Go ahead and wear a pair of Superman cufflinks because you can identify with this hero.

Release The Child In You!

Your being a Superman fan doesn't have to end with your childhood. You might have put an end to your hobby of collecting Superman comic books in order to move out of the house and pay your rent. But, that doesn't mean you can't relive the days wherein you saved your allowance in order to buy a limited edition Superman comic book by wearing a pair of Superman cufflinks to work. You may have given up the thrill of showing off your latest issue to your friends because most of them have outgrown it and have moved on to other interests like golf and poker nights but that doesn't mean that you can no longer release the fan in you by flaunting your Superman cufflinks.

Be a Hero to Your Child!

Perhaps now that your friends have grown out of it, you now collect comic books with your son. And, you never fail to tell him about the collection that you have accumulated in the past. You even take him to the attic once in a while to open the dusty boxes and show him your plastic-covered collections. You also took him to watch the movie and gave him a recap of the Superman stats and info in your head. So, even though you are already an adult and wearing a pair of Superman cufflinks is the last thing on your mind, be his hero for today and wear the gift he has studiously searched for you. Maybe after you've gotten used to the feeling of wearing something that stands out from the regular cufflinks, you will enjoy wearing your Superman cufflinks. It will not only help you relive your childhood, it will also allow you to smile and look back to the moments you've shared with your son.

Be the Generous Hero

Even if you have never been a Superman fan, you can still release the hero within by being a good friend to your best bud. You may find him immature because he hasn't stopped purchasing comic books and action figures. In fact, he still attends conventions and he hounds e-bay for every single collector's item he can find. Why not show that you appreciate who he is. Be his hero for the day! Give him a pair of Superman cufflinks and put a smile on his face!

Made Own Comic Books for Free

Free Comic Book Day

The first Saturday in May is the official day for comic books. What is so great about this day is that comic books are given away for free. For the past seven years, participating stores have been giving out free comics; but only on this one Saturday a year. The purpose behind this day is to promote comics to kids. To keep the industry alive, we need the newest generations getting hooked on comics. Kids as young as two and three years old become interested in comics, even though they can’t read, because they are familiar with the action hero figures. More than likely, most kids have a superman or batman action figure and they can relate to the comics from looking at the pictures.

The comics given out are special issues. They are printed especially for Free Comic Book Day. They are printed differently than normal comics, and they don’t have a barcode on them. Also, most of the comic books handed out have Free Comic Book Day printed somewhere on the cover. At one store participating in the event, they have more than ten different comics to choose from that will be given out for free. This is made possible because each major comic publisher produces a free edition comic. For a comic book enthusiast, this once a year even is like Christmas for them. As many as twelve million comic books will be given out on Saturday.

William Shatner, one of the most memorable Star Trek actors, is taking part in the event. He has plans to announce the release of his own comic book series. He will be doing a comic book signing at a store in Los Angeles where they will be giving out free comics. William Shatner partnered with Bluewater Productions to create a 32 page comic to be given away for free in support of Free Comic Book Day. His series of science fiction comics is called Tek War, and the free comic given out is a prologue to the issue. Hugh Jackman, leading actor in the X-men series, is also promoting Free Comic Book Day. He is starring in the new release X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He believes that comics have the power to get kids to read. They are playing a large part in fighting illiteracy in our country.

Without comic book retailers, this world wide event wouldn’t be possible. They pay anywhere from 12 to 50 cents for each free edition comic book, and give them out to free for anyone who walks through their store.

Copyright of Scanned Art turned into Photoshop Brushes, etc?

In sites like Deviantart, some people make photoshop brushes from the illustrations or photos of books and offer them for download and even charge for them sometimes.
Sometimes they also make brushes out of images from anywhere on the internet ("I made these brushes from images I found on google"). As if google was synonym for free, public owned images!

Isn't it wrong to make brushes from book illustrations/photos and then offer them as photoshop brushes/textures/stock images?

Or is it ok for people to use them as long as they intervene them like Roy Lichtenstein did the comic book vignetes he blew up on canvas and painted?

It probably depends on whether the original artist gives others license to modify their work.

Seems the end result of using such brushes is to simplify the process of adapting others' work, which would likely fall under fair use laws. However, the responsibility for this doesn't lie with the brush maker.

I don't agree with those that charge for such brushes, unless they specifically have permission from the original artist. (You should probably report these to dA.)

Female Marvel Comic Book Characters

It's a Girl!

Spider-man is one of Marvel Comics most popular superhero characters and their company mascot. Simply put, Spider-man is amazing! He can climb up walls like a spider can; he has spider sense, agility, speed, superhuman strength, and balance. His most famous attribute is being able to shoot spider webs from his wrists. It is the perfect tool for catching the bad guys. Even outside of wearing the Spider-man suit, Peter Parker is sheer genius. He is an expert at physics, chemistry, and most other sciences. Spiderman not only protects the city, but he also lives in an alternate universe. The alternate universe also has an alternate future, all of which occurs in the Marvel Universe.

In the Marvel Universe, Spider-man has a daughter. Her name is Spider-girl, and she is also known as May “Mayday” Parker when she isn’t wearing her spider suit. The character was created by Ron Frenz and Tom DeFalco. Spider-girl has her own series of comic books which is written by Tom DeFalco and drawn by Pat Olliffe and Ron Frenz. Spider-girl comic books series are the longest running for Marvel Comics with a lead female character.

Spider-girl inherited a lot of the same powers as her dad. However, her dad has more superhuman strength than she does. She is more agile that Spider-man and can heal faster if she is injured. She can crawl up the sides of walls but finds it hard and has to concentrate, which doesn’t happen to her dad. Her body generates a bio-magnetic field which allows her to wall climb. She also has spider sense which comes naturally to her. This sixth sense allows her to know where and when danger is lurking. Spider-girl’s spider sense is more powerful than her dad’s, and is more reliable because it points her to the direction of where a threat is occurring. Because her spider sense is so strong, she can fight blindfolded and detect where her opponents weak spot is. The webs she shoots out from her wrists are different than Spider-man’s. The webs are called stingers because the material is metal.

Spider-girl is so amazing that the name of her comic book series was changed from Spider-girl to the Amazing Spider-girl. And as comics are becoming digital, she underwent another name change. The digital release of the super heroine is now known as the Spectacular Spider-girl. The digital comic will also be available in print under the name Amazing Spider-man family, and will include both spider characters.

Very Best Comic Book News

Finding a new favorite author

All of us have endless reading to do on a daily basis.  We read newspapers, magazines, contracts product specifications, websites etc.  The list goes on and on.  All this is reading for work, or reading for news, or reading because we have to.  Then…there’s reading for pleasure.  Reading for pleasure is something I take very seriously.

Both my parents actively encouraged reading for us kids.  I was in a book club by the time I was seven and reading novels when my peers were reading comic books.  Through high school and college I learned to identify with, and appreciate various authors styles. Back in those days there were prolific authors who wrote every word themselves, toiling away to make each new book as exciting and fresh as the last.

I’m here to say that the emperor has no clothes.  I’m here to say that many of the bestselling authors of yesteryear are pumping out embarrassing works that do not live up to their reputation.  I’m here to say that the publishing industry, like many others, has taken the easy way out. They have failed to do the hard work of weeding out marginal pieces, and delivering to us fresh new voices. Instead they find a handful of strong horses, and whip them till they’re spent and empty.

There is however a glimmer of hope.  The inevitable combination of computers, the internet, powerful word processing software and print-on-demand services is sowing the seeds of the future of publishing.  Small passionate publishing houses and even self-published authors have more access to the mainstream market today than ever before.   New, determined writers who believe in their works and are willing to put up their time and money are the new voice.

This isn’t to say that all small books and self published pieces are good.  In fact, many of them aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.  Ahhh, but there’s the rub isn’t it?  To find that needle in the Haystack.  Discover the author who writes just like your favorites used to.

It happens.  I’ve found several in the last month or so.  First time authors who weave an enticing, fresh story together with crisp dialog and a page turning plot.  Forget the bestseller lists and give some of these new voices a chance.  Here’s a couple to start with.

“Knife Music” by David Carnoy.  It’s an original format with flashbacks and flashforwards that manage to keep the reader fully engaged.  Once you get the hang of Carnoy’s style, it’s very gripping.  Reading this book is like reading a good book and working a satisfying puzzle at the same time.

End of Grace” by K. Thomas Murphy.  This book smacked of the best work from some of my favorite authors.  If you liked the plot driven early works of Grisham, Sanford, Childs and Deaver, add Murphy to your list.   If you wanted more from the Da Vinci Code, give this book a shot.  I checked the author’s website, and he has more in the works.

This summer, when you’re looking for something fresh and different, take a chance.  Try to discover a new favorite author.

Batman Comic Books Online Value

What Comic Value Entails

It’s always good to have your comic book appraised by a professional if you are looking to sell it. Comic Value would help you understand what you have in your comic book. There are specifications on how your comic book must look. The glossy cover and the brightly filled pages must still look as good as new or like they have never been read before, even if they have. In fact most people that keep the rare editions or collector’s comics usually have two of the same comic. That means one was for reading and the other for safe keeping.

Most of the time you will find that the one for reading is different from the one that is all wrapped up in a clean sealed environment and kept in mint condition. This kind of time and conditioning that is given to the comic books can only be done by someone who loves comics and has the dedication to keep his or her comic book in the right conditions, atmosphere and surely knows the comic value. Such people get the comic book appraised and then put in time and money to make sure that the comic is in mint condition. Some of them even showcase their comic in conventions on comic books and superheroes. The comic value  goes even higher when more people get to view it and cannot get a hold of another copy anywhere.

It is important to make sure that you keep your comic away from any wet atmosphere or to keep it sealed tight in its case or plastic sleeve if you intend to keep it for a while. Also note that you must keep checking online for more news on how much your comic book is valued.

Female Comic Book Superheroes

Top Ten Comic Book Characters

There are thousands of comic book characters in existence from past to present. Many are well known while the majority are more obscure to the general public. And while top ten lists are generally subjective and based on opinion, there are certain comic book characters that will be discussed in this article that are worthy of that distinction by most standards. These are in random order.

Superman - There absolutely cannot be a top ten list of comic book characters without the Man of Steel. He's one of the first (arguably THE first) superhero to ever grace the four-color world, and thus his history is one of the richest. He's also one of the most popular in both comics and worldwide as viewed by the general public. He represents truth, justice, righteousness and morality. And while many find it hard to relate to him, those same people look up to his characteristics and admire his altruistic spirit.

Batman - Not quite so altruistic, but every bit as popular and loved is the Dark Knight. He may not always do the right thing, or do it the right way, but his motives are always pure, and his intent is always clear. He's a thinking man's hero, but he's also a warrior's hero. He's well rounded and complete, and a little bit gritty, and that's why we like him.

Spider-Man - The boy next door; the everyman; the geeky kid a great majority of us can relate to who overcomes the odds and becomes something great. Spider-Man gives us hope that we can achieve that same greatness in our own special ways. He truly is a standard bearer and a true hero to the core, always trying to do the right thing, but many times messing it up horribly, thus proving he's still human, and thus endearing him more and more to our hearts.

Lex Luthor - The arch-nemesis of the 'Blue Boyscout', Superman, Lex Luthor is all kinds of evil wrapped up in money and a well pressed, expensive suit. He's diabolically clever and vicious, and he never lets Supes sleep on the job. Cementing his legacy as one of the greatest villains of all time, Luthor wins our allegiance for the depth of his character and his driven purpose.

Captain America - Maybe not as popular in modern times as he was in the days of World War II when he first appeared on the comic scene, but still a symbol of America and classic comics from the Golden and Silver ages. Captain America is displaced and so he views the world a bit differently than the rest of us. He sees things the way they should be in his mind, which isn't always the most popular point of view. He's often portrayed as a boy scout, but truthfully he's much deeper than that, and that's where the appeal lies.

Wolverine - Overused or not, Logan is one of the most popular comic book characters in existence today. When he first burst onto the scene in the revitalized X-Men he quickly gained an everlasting fan base because of the difference he brought to the table. He's not your typical do-gooder hero, though he always does fight for the right causes. He's temperamental, at times insecure, rude, crude and unpredictable. He's a loner with a heart of gold and a penchant for violence. He's an anti-hero who takes no crap, but at the same time he deeply cares about those he surrounds himself with. And it's those complexities that make him stand out in our minds.

Wonder Woman - The first widely received female superhero, Wonder Woman is by far the most popular female comic book character to date. She comes from a world where women are dominant, which gained her popularity early on in the women's liberation movement. She stands head-to-head and toe-to-toe with any male superhero, and she shows them up oftentimes. She's a strong, beautiful, intelligent and yet still feminine heroine with a costume that has become more than iconic.

The Joker - The thorn in Batman's side rightly deserves a place on this list for his epic battles with the 'Caped Crusader'. Of all comic book characters in the superhero realm, there is none quite like the Joker. He's maniacal, insane, and ruthless, yet charming, smooth and debonair at the same time. He's a mass murderer and a child killer, and he's obsessed with Batman. He's just too crazy not to love!

The Flash - If underoos and t-shirts are any indication, The Flash is one of the most noticeable and popular iconic comic book characters of all time. He's a fan-favorite of comic readers and non-comic fans alike. He's known worldwide and his trademark red costume with the white circle and yellow lightning bolt are instantly recognized. But more than appearance, it's his powers and his wit that land him on this list. He's one of the original comic relief superheroes in the genre with his sarcastic and humorous banter that rivals that of Spider-Man. And who doesn't love super speed powers? He's the best at what he does.

The Incredible Hulk - Mr. Green Genes himself has to make this list merely for his iconic status in the world of comics and beyond. He's a classic hero that has gained notoriety through comics, television and film. And with the popularity of the second Hulk film that just released, his star will only continue to rise. Couple that with the massive success of Planet Hulk and the Incredible one is a force to be reckoned with. Whether it’s his intense power, or the dynamic between that power and the weak, but intelligent alter-ego Bruce Banner, we love him no matter what.

There are many other comic book characters that could have easily made this list, like Magneto, Iron Man, Robin, Green Lantern, Professor X and so many others. The names represented above, though, are undoubtedly some of the greatest comic book characters ever created.
