Original Comic Art – Living Legacy Of Comic Books

Most of us are very familiar with comic books and comic characters. For those who take a deeper interest in comics, the characters may seem as real as people in their lives. And they know the personality of the character very well. They in fact become so familiar with the character that they can anticipate the things that the character says and they can even mimic some of the character's comic expressions. In a sense the comic characters can seep into the lives of the character's fans as much as another human being can do.

And yet amongst all these people who avidly follow the stories of their favorite comic characters, few are aware that they can own an original piece of comic art of their favorite character. And if they choose to acquire one they can come the closest possible to meeting the comic character in reality.

When one reads a comic book, even with devout interest one tends to skim over it. It is not the reader's fault because the comic book is a format that was originally intended for light and quick reading. The expressions are easy to grasp and the text is worded in manner that is easy to read and understand. And yet if one were to pause and stare at the drawing for a while one would be able to appreciate it in much more detail. And this is just what one can do with the mass-produced version of the comic art.

If you were to acquire and study an original comic art you would be able to see much more detail of the drawing. For one the art is much larger than the art reproduced in the comic books you read. You will be able to see the huge talent of the comic artist and how those expressions that you love are brought about by the artist's master strokes. If you choose to display this original artwork in your home it would become a conversation piece that would be admired by your friends.

The best part is, original comic art is quite accessible and not expensive. You can go online, find and purchase the original artwork of an artist that you admire. You can learn more at www.sketchmaven.com

Tips for creating a Comic Book Cover?

Er, have to draw a comic book cover for Art class. Due Tuesday. Tips, or websites on making one? Like what should be included, besides the character hahaha.

1- The name of the comic, drawn in 'logo' fashion [X-men isn't drawn with the same font as Superman]
2- An exciting scene that draws our interest and relates to the story inside. NOT just a static pic of the hero
3- A few words, including the title [like 'Return of the Fallen!'], and maybe a little dialog that contributes to the tension.
4-Include a logo from the publisher [like Marvel or DC], a price tag, and a date for a more authentic look.

Take a glance at some classic covers at the link below:

The Losers is an upcoming action film, and an adaptation of Vertigo and DC Comics' comic book series of the same name. Directed by Sylvain White, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans. The Losers is due for release in North America on April 23, 2010. The film is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for "sequences of intense action and violence, a scene of sensuality and language." This makes it the first movie released by Dark Castle Entertainment (as well as the first Vertigo film adaptation) not to receive an R rating.
Five members of an elite United States Special Forces team are sent into the Bolivian jungle. The team find themselves the target of a betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Believed to be dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda.
In 2007 it was announced that a movie adaptation is in development with a screenplay by Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt, to be directed by Tim Story for Warner Bros.[2] In October 2008 Variety reported that Sylvain White had now taken the director's chair, with Dark Castle Entertainment acting as the financiers. [3] In February 2009, it was reported that Jeffrey Dean Morgan would headline the upcoming adaptation playing Clay. In March 2009, it was confirmed that Columbus Short will play Pooch, Idris Elba will play Roque and Zoe Saldana will play Aisha, Chris Evans playing Jensen, and Óscar Jaenada playing Cougar.[citation needed] In August 2009, it was announced that Jason Patric will play Max.[4]
Filming Filming for The Losers began in Miami, Florida and Puerto Rico in July 2009.[5] Many of the movie's scenes were filmed in many of Miami's neighborhoods such as Brickell, Downtown Miami, Midtown Miami, Port of Miami, and South Beach. City scenes were shot in the Downtown Miami area, with driving scenes in the city filmed along Brickell Avenue and near the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. Filming in Puerto Rico included scenes at the Arecibo Observatory and the Milla de Oro area of Hato Rey, Puerto Rico.

Where do you start in the Marvel Civil War series?

My boyfriend is interested in reading the Civil War series and I recently went to Midtown Comics to pick a book out for his Christmas gift. He hasn't read any of them yet, and I would like to get him the first. The ones I saw there were actual bound books, and weren't numbered. Any tips?

Start with Civil War #1 but also pick up Civil War: Front Line. As of right now there are 5 issues of Civil War and 9 issues for Front Line. If you want to pick up the tie-ins as well still with Major characters, specifically Spiderman (in Amazing Spiderman, don't worry because all the tie-ins are marked on the cover) and Fantastic Four. Trust me your boyfriend will LOVE that gift. Good luck.

Comic Book Grading Staples

Movie Poster Collecting Requires Trained Eye

Movie posters generally can serve two purposes after their days as in-theater displays are over. One, they can be valuable collectibles, no different than baseball cards, stamps or comic books. And just as with those widely collected items, a poster’s condition has much to do with its value. And two, they make spectacular wall hangings, and can add a dash of style and pizzazz to your game room, office or den. (When used only as décor, and not considered an investment, reprinted film advertisements are probably sufficient.)

No matter which group you fall into, knowing the difference between a collectible movie poster and a reprint is important. After all, if you’re hoping to attain an item that will increase in value, it must be an original print. If, on the other hand, you only want to spruce up your off-campus apartment, there’s no sense spending money on a pricier collectible when an equally attractive reprint would fit the bill.

What makes a film print collectible? How is the quality of a print determined? How can I preserve a collectible once I’ve obtained one? If you are new to the collecting game, you likely have many questions that you need answered before you make your first purchase. Below, you’ll find a few tips to help get your collection started on the right foot.

Original vs. Reprint: Learning the difference

To determine whether something is considered collectible movie art, you must know the answer to two key questions: Was it produced, printed and distributed by a movie studio solely for the purpose of in-theater advertising? Was it originally intended for use only as a movie advertisement and not as an item meant for public consumption? If you can answer “yes” to both of those questions, you’re likely dealing with a movie poster that has value.

Certainly other factors come into play (and we’ll address some of them shortly) but the basic criteria have been met. Movie art materials that have value are created for studios by a select group of lithographers, sent to theaters as advertising materials, and later either returned to the studio or destroyed. They aren’t printed in huge numbers with the goal of being sold to the public later. In fact, the print run of each movie poster is limited to only what is necessary for theaters and distribution centers and later returned for credit. Because of this, there are fewer in circulation, which in turn is what makes them more valuable.

Making the Grade: Understanding what a print is worth

Grading systems used to determine the value of movie poster art are similar to grading systems used for other collectibles. Rips, bent corners, faded colors, staple holes or pinholes, and any other blemishes will detract from its market value. Most collectors will use standards set by the Motion Picture Arts Gallery to help figure a print’s value. Ranging from “Near Mint” to “Fair”, the value of a print can be wide-ranging.

Prints graded in “Near Mint” condition were hardly ever used, if at all, boasting colors that are still vibrant and no mars of any kind. The MPAG scale declines as far down as “Fair”, which describes posters that show signs of wear, perhaps are ripping at the folds, and could have damaged borders. Even prints in this condition have value - the poster is still rare after all - but the market will knock points from its worth.

Of course, even after the condition of a print is ascertained, estimating its value requires additional legwork. You can’t simply rely on a dealer’s word as to its worth. Conduct extensive research to determine how film prints for the same movie and of like condition are being valued. And remember, the more rare a piece, the more valuable it becomes, so if you have a difficult time locating artwork of a particular film, that’s a good sign that its value might be higher.

Quality Control: Preserving your investment

No matter how great an investment you make in a movie poster, it won’t be a sound investment if you don’t care for the item. Preserving the quality of the paper is critical, but it isn’t difficult to do with some basic instruction. One of the most preferred materials used to preserve valuable documents is uncoated polyester film. DuPont’s Mylar D and ICI Corp’s Melinex 516 are two of the most popular brands. By sealing the movie posters, these products will protect your investment from the paper-destroying effects of moisture, pollutants, oils and acids.

Other preservation methods, less popular because they render the movie posters less usable, include using acid-free boards and boxes. Many collectors also have their posters professionally deacidified before storage to add additional years of life.

Size matters: Understanding the shapes and sizes

While the term “movie poster” is generically used to refer to any marketing materials used to advertise a film, actual studio-released work typically comes from a catalog of certain sizes. Below are the names of the most common sizes and where you’re likely to first see each advertisement.

1 Sheet: 27” x 41” (27” x 40” after 1980); most often seen in theater lobbies and in display cases in and around theaters (i.e.: bus stations, train stations…)

2 Sheet / Subway: 41” x 54”; used in subway stations

3 Sheet: 41” x 81”; used as large lobby displays

6 Sheet: 81” x 81”; used as small billboards

12 Sheet: 108” x 144”; used as medium billboards; very seldom used with new releases today

24 Sheet: 108” x 246”’ used as large billboards

30 Sheet: 118” x 265” used as large billboards

Objectivity in grading comic books?

The Overstreet Grading system (Grades 1.00 thru 10.00) lists the general criteria for determining an approximate grade for a comic book (i.e. cover/page condition, cover gloss, folds, bends, tears, paper color, staple condition, repairs done, etc.). BUT: do you grade a comic from the 1940's/1950's THE SAME WAY you grade a comic book thats less than 10 years old? Does a "near mint" comic book from the forties or fifties have to look THE SAME as a "near mint" comic book from 2001 to the present? From what I've seen on websites and stuff graded by the CGC in Sarasota, Florida, I would say no...but can any veteran collectors of vintage comics & magazines give me their educated opinions...OR: is grading just a total crapshoot, and you get a condition quote based on what the grader feels like at the moment? Thanks for your input!

I think each individual comic owner grades a comic subjectively. The only "true" objective opinion is a professional third party grading system, like CGC. I believe they grade from 0.5 to 10.0 and apparently, grade each individual page. I've heard of many long time professional comic dealers sending books to CGC and getting a completely different grade than they expected. For instance, if a long time comic store owner submits a book to CGC because he believes it grades 9.0 or higher and the book returns as a CGC 7.5, who is right? Probably the grading service. Until CGC discloses their exact methods of grading, there will never be a universally objective grading process.

The books age makes no difference in terms of grading it. Mint condition in the 40's is the same mint condition of the 2010's.

I'm very subjective in my own grading. I have certain pet peeves that dictate what I collect. My major concern is front cover corner creases that break the color. This is a major factor in how I grade my comics. I believe a comic with such a crease could be considered no higher than VG, but I see many sellers on ebay selling them as Fine or Very Fine. If I cannot see both outside corners in an ebay picture, I will not even bother asking. I also will not collect anything with markings, such as cover stamps, pen, marker, stickers, cut outs, water marks, subscription creases, stape pulls or stains. I believe nothing with these defects should grade above Good, but I see sellers dismissing the defects with a higher grade. Some collectors would argue a book with a subscription crease to be Fine, but not in my world. On the other hand, I'm more leanient and accepting of books with middle cover small crinkle creases, small edge tears or small spine splits. Other collectors feel that small edge tears or spine splits are the end of the world. To each is own I guess. So until CGC produces a webinar with in depth detail of their exact grading process, I would suggest to collect what's important to you.

History of Comic Books Superheroes

Watch Heroes Superheroes

A super-hero is really a fictional character - normally an adventurer or vigilante of some sort - with superhuman powers or expertise (physical, mental or spiritual in nature), whose exploits are chronicled nearly totally in comic publications or other media adaptations of these people comic book adventures. They are normally children's cartoons, but many super-hero movies are introduced inside past 10 many years.

Some popular qualities involve. Not all super-heroes fall neatly into these qualities (The Brilliant Four, by way of example, don't run with secret identities), but most do.

Super-heroes can trace their history towards pulp heroes on the 1920s and 30s.

Especially, factors of Doc Savage, who was the peak of human evolution, could be witnessed in Superman's expertise in his earliest adventures; and Batman's dark tone might be drawn towards the Shadow, although his costume has much extra in popular with comic strip hero, The Phantom. The Phantom predates Superman, but since Superman has super-human powers, he is commonly regarded the very earliest super-hero.

The vast majority of super-hero comic publications made suitable now are released by either DC Comics or Marvel Comics. In truth, they co-own the copyright on the phrase "super-hero." No other comic book organization can use "super-hero" or any variation with the time period.

Super-hero tales lend themselves properly to other genres, from the "intergalactic cop" science fiction of Green Lantern towards the Law & Order kind of police procedural in Powers.

Most modern super-hero tales continue to feel the impact in the Watchmen. Characters that were written primarily for children for 40-70 many years are now dealing with much extra mature themes including political corruption, betrayal, madness, and what happens when the "bad guys" win. Lex Luthor has been President from the United States, and Norman "Green Goblin" Osborn is, as of this writing, currently one in the most powerful politicians inside the Marvel Universe.

The future of super-heroes is as uncertain as super-hero comics. As independent comics and graphic novels gain a greater foothold inside the industry, DC and Marvel are taking much a lot more chances with their properties, allowing creators the opportunity to dramatically kill off all but the most recognizable properties if it suits the needs with the story.

watch heroes the second coming is the best place to watch heroes trust and blood

Why don't people read comics?

They run to the theaters to watch the movies, They non-comic book fans tuned in to watch Heroes' first season. Comics have always played a large part in American pop culture, so why don't people read them on comic form?

Is it just the reading process period?

And outside of superheroes I know people who love the movies Ghost World, A History of Violence and American Splendor but still think comics are too immature, those movies are based on comics!

Yeah, I don't get it either. People want to watch Batman movies but not read any of the batbooks? Makes no sense to me. And anyone who says it's more realistic as a movie or on TV is just kidding themselves and obviously doesn't read comics. Batman looked painfully out of place in some scenes of The Dark Knight when he works just fine in any of the DC books.

People who don't read comics or graphic novels have misconceptions about them that are based on generalizations and the geekening by pop culture of the format. But since the Watchmen trailer came out, I know people that would've never picked up a comic change their minds when they read the GN.

Amy's Fantasies - Hentai Game Review

Hentai games do not involve actual/realistic human figures, but cartoon images, often stereotyped with a Japanese look. The major elements of these games are romance, dating, flirting, and sexual themes ranging from normal to the taboo and bizarre. The games combine fantasy and imagination with some interactive elements to create a new world around the user.

Amy's fantasies is more of a sexually oriented game. It involves fantasy and desire. There are three stories all containing themes based on sex. The protagonist is a girl called Emi, who takes on different roles - a student, nurse, or a maid. Her father dies leaving her with a debt to repay.

She is still in school and secretly in love with her stepbrother. Nearing her 18th birthday she decides to reveal the secret to her brother.

Dramatic action begins when the tax collectors confiscate her property before she could confess her love to him. Moreover, the stepbrother soon disappears, and she sets out to find him.

This is the middle of the story, when the girl takes on three different roles to locate her stepbrother. There are all sorts of temptations, and she begins to show different sides of her personality. A second personality called Amy soon develops, adding humor to the story.

The game combines sexual themes with comical elements. This is a bishojo game. The perspective is from the female point of view.

The negative aspect of the story are graphics and the small screen view. The game combines three different stores on different locations with different characters and roles.

Funny And Comical T-Shirts

Getting tired of the basic workday clothes? When the Sundays comes around it is fun to lighten things up a bit by using casual wear that says you have a sense of humor and do not take yourself too seriously. When it is the occasion to cut back, fun, festive clothes would help put you in a fine mood. Varying the trend by adding a couple witty shirts into the mix means that one is not all serious and certainly have a silly side.

Most tshirt stores (some can be seen on the web) have superb options of humorous designs to choose from. Some such stores offer the option of making customized shirts featuring your own design. This is a great way to express the creativity and excellent humor.

If you prefer to generate your own clothing by hand and do not mind getting the hands a bit dirty, silk screening is an option. Making your own silk screen designs on shirts will be a great hobby. Silk screen kits and paints will be purchased at art supply stores. You may consider attending a workshop or checking out an web tutorial on silk screening. What a good way to make and give gifts with a personal touch.

Humor will serve as a memorable sales tool. A shirt with a comical slogan must be a terrific advertising medium for a business. Wearing one will be an effective way to spark conversation about one and the business.   Spread laughter and joy everywhere you go by wearing a comical shirt.

Creative Business Online - Make Money Online With Rich Niche Blogging

General entertainment may be the most productive way for any site informing rather than selling. Some sites, on the other hand, do both selling and providing informative articles, including sites which sell products and ads like Amazon. Two preeminent examples of sites focusing on the entertainment niche are Salon.com and IGN.com, both highly successful websites. With blogging, the rules are somewhat different. This short guide explains the basics of making money online with an entertainment blog.

Blogging On What?

Usually you want to blog on the topics that excite you, because more often than not that will be your best writing. On the other hand, creating posts designed for high profit also works. Say you hate action TV shows, but actions shows are the rave. What do you do? It's still up to you, but in the end you can honestly do this for pay and do this for fun. If it's like pulling teeth, maybe you should ask someone else to do it (a guest blogger).

TV Show Reviewing:

Since TV shows were mentioned, let's go over blogging on them. This can mean writing blog posts on new characters in the shows, upcoming seasons being released on DVDs, certain genres of TV shows like action or horror, or even a new writer's strike. TV show reviewing is often the most lucrative field for entertainment blogging; few hate TV, many are hooked on it.

Other Reviewing:

Of course, entertainment sites like Salon and IGN also focus on books, anime, comics, and movies. Reviews take a special kind of skill to write, however, and doing them solely on your entertainment blog is a risk. Write on multiple subjects, and see what catches reader's interests.

Commentary:

Commentating on the latest stories in Hollywood is also quite lucrative. This isn't so much news, but offering what a newspaper opinion column does. News means "Just the Facts" while commentary lets you go into more personal experience with series. Say you're in love with science fiction shows; "Battlestar Galactica" and "Star Trek" are addictions to you. You can tap this vein of interest to find similar fans across the world. You can write opinion pieces like "10 Reasons Science Fiction Shows are Hot!" or "Why the Sci-Fi Channel is Working Miracles!"

Hot News:

One major aspect of all entertainment blogging is staying informed on not only what happened yesterday but what happened today. New TV series, new bestselling books from names like Stephen King or Dean Koontz, an action star like Will Smith or Bruce Willis signing up for the latest action film trilogy ... these are all strong topics. You can find much of this out by simply opening up the entertainment section of a major newspaper, while also using the net for what it's meant for.

Make Money Blogging-How?

So how do you make money blogging with entertainment blogging? Often the most lucrative way to make money is simple ad sales; there are thousands of potential markets, from selling ad space for new movies to taking small commissions from items you've reviewed.

Film blogging is the rich niche nr 2.

Truly, film blogging is a hot commodity online today, mainly because so many of us love to watch a good film. It's the modern storytelling form, even more so today than the novel.

This guide not only offers clear topics, but some useful ways to make money blogging with an online career opportunity.

Choose a Genre, Choose Again:

Choosing a genre may seem simple to you. "I love horror!" Or "Anything with Johnny Depp!" First, remember there are likely film blogs on just about every topic you can imagine; it's been done so you need to offer something new. That means experience in good and bad films, a unique way of grading a film, and the willingness to blog continuously on the same topic. Sometimes, for the more experienced blogger, it's important to focus on a very specific niche. And actually, Horror Blogging or blogging on Johnny Depp are good examples.

The problem is the online world is full of them.

Unique Topics:

There are almost no topics left for film blogs. So choose one that you are willing to write on continuously, and one which will give you enough material to actually write on. Johnny Depp has only been in so many films, so if you plan to make money blogging, check that one.

On the other side, while there are hundreds of horror blogs, there are thousands of horror movies coming in from across the world, and a wide fan base. That's a good pick. So are most genres, from science fiction films to the more thriller type films like "Rambo" or "Jurassic Park."

Sidelines:

You still need more topics, because many of these films will be years old and have no interest. That's why you may also consider using TV shows and even online shows which fall into your category of favorite films. Say you enjoy French films, and you start running out of the ones you've seen. France has television, France has TV shows. It's just to create more possibilities for content creation.

Make Money Blogging:

As with all entertainment blogging aspects, film blogging is a huge market, especially if you focus the niche on a specific topic. Horror blogging would of course get a host of movies, many of which need small fan based advertising-that's you. You can also sign up to be an affiliate with major sites selling movies, like Amazon and Barnes & Noble; this won't make you rich, but you will often get steady streams of sales. If you establish yourself as a film critic, there is the opportunity to write feature articles on major sites.

So often, book to film adaptations suck. What works well on the page often seems ridiculous projected up on the big screen - e.g. The Da Vinci Code, Dear John, Eragon, Twilight (ridiculous on the page, too, admittedly). Either that or the original story has been altered so much as to be unrecognisable, enraging fans of the source material and confusing newcomers (The Golden Compass).
