Oliver musical

Oliver! The musical first appeared on the stage in the West End in 1960 and achieved immediate success. The British public appreciated the drama and the music in this Lionel Bart production and little known actors introduced in this play, went on to attain enormous popularity as adults. Among them, notably were the young boys playing the title role, and Ron Moody as Fagin and Barry Humphries as Mr. Sowerberry. The musical is a loose version of Charles Dickens' 1838 novel Oliver Twist. To make it more audience friendly, the musical adaptation made several changes and a key change was the portrayal of Fagin as a comic character rather than as the book's villain. The opening scene of Oliver! shows half-starved orphan boys entering the lunchroom for dinner ("Food Glorious Food"). They are fed only gruel and when Oliver asks for more, he is promptly asked to pack his belongings by the heartless and greedy caretakers' Mr. Bumble and Widow Corney and sold ("Boys For Sale") to Mr. Sowerberry, an undertaker. Next morning after a fight with Noah, the undertaker's assistant, Oliver escapes and after a week meets Artful Dodger, a boy pickpocket. Dodger beckons to come and live in Fagin's den. Fagin is a criminal and he teaches Oliver and other boys their methods in "You've got to Picket a Pocket or Two". On his first mission along with Dodger and another boy pickpocket named Charley Bates, they rob a wealthy old man, and run off leaving Oliver to be arrested for the crime. In the meantime Oliver has met Nancy - the girl friend of Bill Sikes, the burglar - who showers motherly affection on him. Oliver is captured and subsequently cleared of the crime and taken in by Mr. Brownlow. On receiving the information from Dodger, Fagin and Bill decide to kidnap Oliver to keep their den a secret. When Mr. Brownlow sends Oliver on an errand, Fagin and Bill are able to lay their hands on him and bring him back to their den. Back at the workhouse Mr. Bumble and Widow Corney are informed by a dying pauper Old Sally that Oliver's mother Agnes, left a gold locket (suggesting that he belongs to a rich family) when she died at childbirth. With this information they visit Mr. Brownlow, expecting a reward. After looking at the picture in the locket Mr. Brownlow finds that she is his daughter and Oliver is actually his grandson. Nancy, worried for Oliver, visits Mr. Brownlow and promises to deliver Oliver to him safely that night at the London Bridge. Bill suspects that Nancy is upto something and follows her as she sneaks Oliver out. At London Bridge, he knocks Oliver unconscious and brutally clubs Nancy to death. Mr. Brownlow arrives late to find Nancy's body. Bill's fierce terrier, Bet takes the gathered crowd to Fagin's hideout, and not finding Bill there, the crowd returns to Thames embankment, thirsty for justice. Suddenly, Bill appears on top of the Bridge, holding Oliver as hostage, but the police are able to shoot Bill and rescue Oliver to be united with Mr.Brownlow. This portrayal of Dickens' novel, was much appreciated by the theatre going public. The production at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane is the second revival to be staged at West End. Subsequently, in 1994 a hugely successful production began at the London Palladium with Jonathan Pryce as Fagin. The show ran for three years at the Palladium proving its popularity with the audience; and also has had international success with tours of Asia, Australasia, two of the US and two Broadway productions in 1963 and 1984.

Best Small Dogs Good With Kids?

Finding a new family member is a serious commitment that needs to be taken seriously by the oldest and youngest members of the family. If a parent teaches a child how to care for a pet successfully this is a lesson that will serve this young person all their life.

The downside is he can be hurt, even killed easily due to the same fragility you find in most small breeds. When you have this type of dog child must be made to understand that have to keep an eye out for him. A backpack full of books slammed down in frustration, or a slammed door can cause a serious if not fatal accident for this little sweetheart. Otherwise their health is unusually good for a small breed and a Toy Fox terrier living to 14 years or more is not that uncommon.

Some small dogs good with kids can be hurt by them. If your child can be taught to be gentle and careful than a great playmate might be the Toy Fox Terrier. This little guy is a light weight with soulful eyes and quick energetic movements. His coat is soft and smooth and easy to care for, and he will become very protective of those he loves. He likes to play ball, and he can play the clown seeming to know when heís attracted an audience for his antics.

The Affenpinscher might not be the best choice for most children. He will do well with a studious student who likes visits to the library and some playtime in the park, but while this little guy has comic side most children enjoy, heís just fragile for roughhousing and can be hard to train. An active or hot tempered child might lose their temper with this guy despite his cute monkey like furry face. The little balls of fur are also difficult to house train.

Pugs are a good mix with younger passed the toddler stage. These little dogs with a big personality seem to consider children as siblings. They like to play games that involve a lot of actions, but fetching the ball might not be this little fellowís thing. He will also loyally follow the family around everywhere really getting his feelings hurt if he is left out. Children will need to be firmly taught to leave this guy alone when he is at his water or food bowl. He is easily leashed trained and housebroken.

It is not a good idea to adopt a new dog when you have a new born or young toddler. You will be very busy training one small human to locate the bathroom and eat on their own that a puppy or even a full grown dog can be a little too much all at once. Puppies keep their new families up while they are growing and getting settled just as babies and young children do. Waiting until all the excitement of a new personís arrival has died down to get a new pet is usually recommended.

For a family with young children the question will come up when choosing a small pet dog. You want to know if the dog will get along with the all of the family. So, before you make any decisions you need to know where to find small dogs that are good with kids and perhaps other pets you already have.

Star Trek Has Arrived

Star Trek has been popular for decades. It has gained popularity with comic book readers, addicted television watchers, and movie lovers. Star Trek fans can see their favorite characters, such as Captain Kirk, Spock, James, and Uhara, come alive in the new release by Jeffrey Jacobs, “J.J.” Abrams. The Star Trek movie features actors Chris Pine, John Cho, Zachary Quinto, and many other amazing actors. J.J. Abrams is an award winning director who was a great choice for directing this movie. Star Trek fans, also known as Trekkies, would be hard to disappoint because he was in the director’s chair. He has won both Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his work.

The new release is the eleventh Star Trek movie based on the franchise. The science fiction movie is filled with action and adventure. What’s different and unique about this movie is that it previews the history of characters James Tiberius Kirk and Spock. It tells of their journey about how they started their careers on the USS Enterprise. The plot of the movie is an exciting one. The opening scenes of the movie show an attack against the USS Kelvin by a Romulan vessel, Narada. James Kirk’s life begins during the attack because he was born during all the fighting. The movie then continues on 22 years after the attack when James is an adult.

At a bar in Iowa, James meets captain Pike and a love interest, Uhara. After a bar brawl, Captain Pike convinces James to straighten up his life, use his intelligence, and join the Starfleet academy. Upon arrival of the academy, James runs into Uhara and the guys he fought at the bar. However, that didn’t stop him from doing so well in the academy. He also sits next to Dr. Leonard McCoy, who soon becomes one of his good friends. James excels in the academy and beats an unbeatable test; instincts just like his father. Some of the students from the Starfleet Academy were called to join the USS enterprise because there was an attack in space. James wasn’t chosen because he was accused of cheating on a test, but his friend Dr. McCoy sneaks him on the USS Enterprise.

The action and adventure continues with the USS Enterprise fighting off Nero, captain of the Narada. Nero destroyed a Vulcan empire and had plans to destroy Earth. James Kirk is promoted to a first officer and then becomes captain. He and Spock work together to defeat the Narada. The best way to find out if the Narada is defeated is to see the movie and watch the action.

Female Comic Book Characters and What They Mean to Comics

Early female comic book characters were limited to supporting roles or used as damsels in distress. They were the Lois Lanes and Lana Langs; characters that mattered to a certain extent, but not as much as the male leads. But since comics were primarily marketed to the male population, this was acceptable and expected.

With the role of women becoming more prominent in society in later years, though, more and more female comic book characters took on larger roles, like Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl. These women were not simply supporting characters, but lead characters who took a backseat to no one as they trail blazed the way for the future of female comic book characters.

In modern times, female comic book characters are as diverse and plentiful as their male counterparts. Whether in the superhero genre or various other genres, more and more women characters are seen every day. This is especially the case in Manga, the Japanese comic book form, and Anime, it’s television equal. The bulk of these stories are primarily targeted towards a female audience and thus feature lead female comic book characters like Cardcaptor Sakura.

Traditionally, superhero comics with female leads have been hard sells for whatever reason. Many heroines have had their own series only to be canceled after only a few issues. There are a few exceptions, though, like Birds of Prey, a DC Comics book that features a team of female comic book characters fighting crime, which has lasted well over 100 issues. And Marvel Comics’ Spider-Girl, featuring Spider-Man’s daughter, May Parker, which was saved from cancellation three times thanks to fan support.

In the early 2000s, Crossgen Comics also created several books with strong female leads, like Sojourn, Meridian and Crux, that forced other companies to take another look at their own female comic book characters. Today, Ms. Marvel and Catwoman are both doing well with their own titles, and Image’s Bomb Queen has had several mini-series and continues to carry a strong fan base. And when mentioned female comic book characters, one can’t forget Aspen Comics’ Aspen Matthews and her book Fathom, which became popular in the 90s and still has a strong following even though it’s not currently producing many issues.

The rise of strong female comic book characters, especially in superhero comics, is obviously intended to extend the audience beyond the typical target market, giving female readers something to relate to as well. And with female characters stepping up even in male dominated team books, like Emma Frost and Storm in the X-Men books, should comic companies continue to cater to this growing audience it should reach its goal. And more readers for comics is always a good thing for the medium.

I've only just started to seriously get into marvel and dc comics (I prefer marvel but dc is good aswell). I have always enjoyed spider-man and x-men but i have only just now started to actually get into them. I have so much history to catch up on and when i read character profi;es on wikipedia, it confuses me with all the parallel worlds and superhero teams and stuff like that. PLEASE if there is any website containing comic books and allowing you to read them aswell, please tell me, i beg you.

Super Girl

Though there have been numerous women who have had Kryptonian-level superpowers ever since Superman's debut in 1938, there have traditionally been four true comic book Supergirls. The various Supergirl comic books began in 1959 with the arrival of Kara Zor-El.

Known as the Silver Age Super girl (though her stories continued past the Silver Age), the first Kara Zor-El was the daughter of Alura In-Ze and Zor-El, Superman's uncle. When she came to Earth, she was quickly discovered by Superman, who was delighted to meet another of his kind. However, Superman wanted to keep Kara's existence a secret, so that he might be able to use her as a secret weapon.

As a result, Kara went off to the Midvale orphanage, where she wore a brunette wig and consciously tried not to get adopted. Despite those efforts, she was eventually adopted by Fred and Edna Danvers. Under her identity of Linda Lee Danvers, Kara graduated high school, finished an undergraduate degree and pursued a graduate education in drama. She held numerous jobs, including counselor, journalist, and actress.

Unlike her other teenage counterparts, Kara was never really a sidekick in the traditional sense. She was part of the Superman family, but she was frequently off doing her own thing, and never needed Superman's approval to do it.

In 1984, this version of Kara Zor-El was killed off in the universe-altering Crisis on Infinite Earths. DC did even more damage by declaring that in the new timeline she never existed, which meant that unlike many of the ones lost in Crisis, Kara was not mourned by her loved ones.

The next major Supergirl was a shape shifter from a pocket dimension. Made by a "good" version of Lex Luthor, the Matrix Supergirl was so named because she had been created based on the molecular matrix of Luthor's dead wife, Lana Lang. She traveled from her world to Superman's in hope that he could save her world from the evil Kryptonians that were invading it, but it was too late for her world. Matrix became the soul survivor of her world. She also engaged in an ill-fated match with Lex Luthor, believing him to be the good man that her world's Luthor had been.

In time, Matrix sacrificed herself to save Linda Danvers, a dying woman whose guardian angel was later revealed to be the original, pre-Crisis Kara Zor-El. With Matrix's sacrifice, she and Linda Danvers become one. The Matrix/Linda Danvers Supergirl is considered by many to be the best. It's certainly full of a rich supernatural, angel and demon mythology that had never been present in Supergirl comics before.

Eventually, Linda and Matrix were separated and Linda gave up being Supergirl entirely.

In 2004, the Superman/Batman comic introduced a new Kara Zor-El. This one was also the cousin of Kal-El. This Kara, however, was a brasher version than any of her counterparts, and Wonder Woman immediately took her to Themyscira for some much needed training. The new Supergirl went through many different creative teams and suffered from continual revisions in history and personality. She also seemed to have ties to practically everyone in the superhero community, from a silly schoolgirl crush on Nightwing to being "mentored" by Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman. Her series is currently being retooled once again, both in costume and personality in an effort to make the series more appealing to female readers.

The four comic book Supergirls all have a very fun and interesting history, but there is always the danger hiding around the corner that says getting to attached to them is a bad idea, because they will inevitably be replaced.

Comic Book Value Freaks Mooters

Got an email from a friend to check out Moot at MootMagMovie.com. It's this insane new movie and magazine that is launching at Wondercon this April. The creator is Ryan Nellis from Eyelumination Studio. He and his star, Cindera Che are going to be at Wondercon in San Francisco and at the Wizards, Anaheim Comic Con signing magazines and previewing parts of the movie.

I'm a big fan of sci-fi and all things paranormal and Moot could very well be the next thing in kitsch, slam satire, meme wild, supernatural concepts. This magazine could be the paranormal version of The Onion, only in a glossy full color explosion of incredible photo illustration. It's a huge send up to classic sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure pulp magazines – updated with incredible photography and illustration. Reading the blog at moot mag movie dot com, reveals some interesting stories in the making for the first issue of Moot Magazine. They have one true story about this beautiful woman named Maya who is being visited by this weird spirit or alien or ghost. It's hard to tell. The pictures Moot Mag printed were from Maya's video camera. They showed this thing, sort of made of light and energy, lifting her off the couch. It was hard to tell whether she is totally getting off on it or was in pain. Truly weird, you got to see it.

And then there is Moot Movie. Trailers and clips have a truly unique look. From what I can tell the story follows a former paparazzo who hunts down the supernatural and paranormal for his magazine. The Moot characters are both weird and beautiful like a sexy dragon girl who has horns, blows fire and bites off the paparazzo's finger. We are left with a crazy shoot out with a buff mecha babe that's driven by the smallest woman in the world. Sound insane? Can't wait till the 30 minute movie is released online.
