Blondie Dagwood Comic Strip

The Dagwood Syndrome

The other day my husband and I were watching the Rachel Ray show. She made what looked to be a beautiful sandwich topped with everthing from sausage to vegetables nicely placed on a hoagie roll. We both sat there, mouths watering as she carefully placed every morsel on this lovely sandwich. We both agreed that we would love to buy the ingredients and make the lunch sometime.

I really like the Rachel Ray show and have tried out many meals that she has shown how to make on her program and they all seem to turn out really good. Although the sandwich she had made on this day looked wonderful I couldn't help but to picture myself eating this monstrosity and all my hard work in preparig it landing on my lap. I am a messy eater by nature. My husband on the other hand was still dazzled by the sandwich. I told him I wondered why the hosts on segments of most of the T.V. shows usually made such large sandwiches. They were meals on bread that the average human could not possibly wrap their mouth around. My husband then explained to me that this was called a man sandwich. He said that large sandwiches like this one were made popular with the Blondie comic strip. He mentioned that Blondie's husband, Dagwood, would go into the refridgerator and find anything that he could pile up and make a sandwich because that was the only food he knew how to make. He said that the sandwich was named the Dagwood sandwich. I thought that he was joking until I looked it up on the internet and sure enough the sandwich, comic strip, and it's Dagwood name were explained.

Unfortunately, "The Man Sandwich" alias "Dagwood" is a bit large for me so I would make my sandwich with half of the ingredients grilled maybe and I would call my simple flattened tasty little sandwich what else but the "Blondie".

I am a want to be writer. I took a course in writing children's books years ago and loved it. The problem is giving myself a push to write on a regular basis. When it's up to par it feels like writing comes together like a puzzle but when I'm not in the mood it shows in my writing.
