Marvel Comics is an American comic book company owned by Marvel Publishing, Inc., a division of Marvel Entertainment, Inc.
Marvel counts among its characters such well-known properties as Spider-Man, the X-Men and their member Wolverine, the Fantastic Four, in the Heroes Reborn universe, in which Marvel defectors Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld were given permission to revamp the properties from scratch. After an initial sales bump, sales quickly declined below expected levels, and Marvel discontinued the experiment after a one-year run; the characters returned to the Marvel Universe proper. In 1998, the company launched the imprint Marvel Knights, taking place within Marvel continuity; helmed by soon-to-become editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, and featuring tough, gritty stories showcasing such characters as G.I. Joe, The Transformers, Jim Henson's Muppet Babies, and such TV series as Dungeons & Dragons, as well as cartoons based on Marvel Comics
Marvel characters have been adapted into films including the Blade, Spider-Man, and X-Men trilogies; the Fantastic Four, Hulk, and The Punisher duologies; Daredevil, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Iron Man, and Man-Thing.
Additionally, a series of chief editors, though the titles were used intermittently. Confusing matters further, some appear to have been appointed merely by extending their existing editorial duties. By the time Jim Shooter took the post in 1978, the position of editor-in-chief was clearly defined.,
In 1994, Marvel briefly abolished the position, replacing Tom DeFalco with five "group editors", though each held the title "editor-in-chief" and had some editors underneath them. It reinstated the overall editor-in-chief position later in the year, installing Bob Harras. Joe Quesada became editor-in-chief in 2000.

8 Oct 2008 at 4:22pm Often, an "all-ages" comic is seen as overly simplistic, or overly childish. The kind of thing Robert Kirkman might say "speaks down" to the reader. After all, if something is truly for any age, then a child should be able to enjoy it just as much as ... Read more...
5 Oct 2008 at 5:49am More Photos I've read comics most of my life. Some of my earliest reading matter consisted of Pogo and the original Mad comic books in their first paperback reprints. I remember how vivid and strange the first issues of "Fantastic Four" and "Spider ... Read more...
24 Sep 2008 at 7:47pm Transformers All Hail Megaron #2 - Comic Review - Shazap.comshazaptv 2 min - Sep 25, 2008Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. Yeah this book. It is just such a fun read and written so well. I am a sucker for nostalgia when it is fun and playful and this book is really doing it for me. Soundwave was always my favorite Disepticon as a kid because he had they cool voice and all the little henchmen and he was a tape recorder. The least menacing transformation ever but he was one of the meanest dudes out there. In this book not only is he badass but his little henchmen are too. They are set loose on New York and wreak some serious havoc on the city. One of them, the little dude Frenzy, takes out the entire military force assembled by himself. We do find out that the earth had some knowledge of the Transformers from there previous battle on earth but they obviously dont have enough to know how to stop them. The Autobots arent in this issue at all and Im just wondering how much more the people of earth can take. The end of the book is just incredible and if youre not careful you might start cheering for the bad guys. Distributed by Tubemogul. Read more...
24 Sep 2008 at 7:41pm Anna Mercury #3 - Comic Review - Shazap.comshazaptv 2 min - Sep 25, 2008Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. This has been a great series full of action, an interesting new world, and an exciting mission to drive it through the first two issues. In this issue the mission is over and the action has halted. Now is the true test to the quality of the story and the draw of the character. With that being said there was a great ending to Annas mission that was a lot of fun to read but she is back home now in our world and has stepped out of the role of Anna Mercury and into Anna Louise Britton to walk the streets of London. The question now that there is a break in the action is will Warren Ellis be able to create a story outside of the action in the life of this character. Can he connect us with her secret identity the same way we connected with the adventure before? Only time will tell but it has been good enough so far that Im willing to stick around and find out. I had dropped of the book and picked this one up by sheer accident. I mean it, I got home and looked in my bag and couldnt remember how this got in here. Well, it was fate because this issue was awesome. I got caught up with the summary, so if youre afraid of jumping in dont be theres plenty of info in there, and took right to the story. The action was great, and I love the new suits the team has. This is a really well done book that keeps you excited and actually inspires a little cheer at the end with the image that we are let with. This is a really fun book to read and a shame to miss out on. Im so glad it crawled into my stack and I got to enjoy it. Go check it out and maybe even go look for the back issues, I know I will.
